Long story short I think I want to redo my exhaust, was thinking of completely removing the factory exhaust, exhaust manifolds, cats, everything back..... and building a new free flowing, possibly catless exhaust....

WHatd o you guys think?? Has anyone ever put a header on there car meant for another??

How hard would it be to get it to fit in there?? Or possible problems getting the old stuff off??

Id really like to tackle this but I see ALOT of headers on ebay, some as low as $100 dollars... would they work..??

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ories

I noticed there is only exhaust headers listed for the 03++ G35 and 350z specifically, would they not fit on the Qx4??

Mind you this is on a budget so Im not looking for hand welded or the best, but I think this may be better quality than the first one i posted

I doubt they will fit. They will probably bolt onto the engine but the QX4's engine bay is a lot different than a 350z's or G35's

Im sure there are differeences... obviously.. but its the same engine and Im assuming the exhaust has enough exit room even in my suv...

Im recreating a complete exhaust from these headers back, so I dont care if it bolts upto stock exhaust or anything..

Thats not the problem, its also the steering shaft, and strut towers that can get in the way. For example, you cant put VG30DE 300zx headers on a VG30DE J30 without fabrication in the engine bay because they wont clear the steering shaft.

lol no offence nala, but you have know knowledge of your engine (the one in question Im asking about) other than your parents let your use there car equipped with one.

Im looking for facts. Not your opinion

Im more curious if the exhaust manifolds made for difference cars will even bolt up to this engine

as much as this absolutely pains me to say this but nala might actually be right on this one. im sure they could possibly fit but my issue with it would be the steering shaft and wideness of the engine bay. it depends on how far out the manifold sits off the heads on the z and also the qx motor. im sure you might be able to get away with modefying the manifolds.

yea. Like I'm sure KA24DE S14 headers will fit on a KA24DE Xterra/frontier with some modifying of the headers and engine bay.

yup, the little guy accidentally got one right.... probably. I have never tried it, but I guess there is a small chance that the downpipe flange of the two cars is in exactly the same position relative the motor (but damn that is a long shot)

It is not that it wont hook up to the engine, it probably would... But from the header to the exhaust tip is a fairly ridged system... The header is going to be designed to point in the direction of the exhaust path, so that even if it does clear everything in the engine bay the downpipe would likely be pointed off a bit, which would point the cat off even more and by that time your getting towards the rear of the vehicle the hangers likely wont line up if the pipe can even be bolted up with out going through the floor board/wheel/ground.

You may be able to do it if you have the fabrication skill to re-route pipes and hangers...

Well I want to fabricate an entire exhaust from the manifold back. so I just want something that bolts up to my exhaust port perfectly, and points the collector in the right direction so I can fab more exhaust...

And with the proper place for the first 02 sensors

just another random side note... not knowing what the dimensions are on anything in said application... BUT... the firewall must also be taken into consideration... the 350 and g35 are cars meaning the exhaust has to clear the ground but the SUV doesn't have to worry about that so an actual SUV header may normally drop further down than a car header... does it? i dunno... but it could... meaning that the car header will run into the firewall rather than under the vehicle on an SUV

Why would you want to put headers on a SUV anyway? Desperate for that extra 5 hp to get to Safeway that much quicker? Your split times in sector 1 (between your house and 7-11) and sector 2 (a much tighter section through a series of chicanes which are actually parked cars on a 1 way road) are not competitive?

Not that I have any interest in headers but ill chime in to defend the idea of horsepower gains on an SUV since its been argued multiple times in the Pathfinder/QX4 Forum...

I don't think he believes that his Q is ever going to be a "racecar" or anything close, and I sure hope those arent his intentions, but that doesn't mean he can't make the most with what he's got and enjoy the few power gains he can squeeze out.

Driving brings joy to a lot of people - why not try and enjoy it just a little bit more?

You cant put frosting on a pen15 head and call it a cupcake. Well, you can, but you better be female, and preferably hot.

The real reason I want to do it is plain and simple.

I like working on my cars and fabricating.

For this mod. I want a motor back exhaust, thats what Im trying to accomplish. Why bash??

I dont care about the ponies and sweet sound Im gonna get. I just want new s*** on my car, and my stock exhaust manifold and heat shields look like s*** and I want them gone...

Loser.

How much research and knowledge do you have on exhaust flow?

A lot goes into an exhaust, especially the headers, then just sticking some tubes to the engine!
