Hey, I'm getting a 91 head of my friend's KA and was gonna work on it a little before installing it in my car. I was wondering if anyone had any guides/tips on DIY stuff I can do to the head. So far I have some mild(cleaning) porting and polishing by hand of the head and possibly running an exhaust cam in place of the intake cam. Ive been searching around for a guide on installing the cams but all I keep reading is moving the cam over 4 teeth. i'm not exactly sure what that means. If anyone knows of some freebie mods I can do on the head before it gets installed and specifics on installing the exhaust cam on the intake side, it would be great. Thanks in advance.

I would say just a clean up of any casting lumps and bumps would be on the edge of 'improvement'. Without a flowbench you can really do some damage and affect the flow rates between cylinders. Also, don't polish the intake, leave it at least 80 grit.

Good luck!

Sorry, I don't know of any freebie mods, but here is a cam installation guide from JWT's site.

If you get the cam repinned it would be the same. But if not, you have to set it back 4 teeth on the chain.

NOTE: Im pretty sure it's 4 teeth, I don't wanna be responsible for the death of your engine though so check on that.

porting-

minor cleanup only. i have yet to see a 4 valve head that needs real port "work" for street driving. on the other hand i have yet to see one that didnt need just a little clean up.

intake-keep it rough but remove flaws and projectionsexhaust-just make it shinyboth sides-dont change the size/volume at all
