Ok, this might sound complicated and wierd.

first off, if i wanna ditch the stock water oil cooler (rb25), can i just plug up the lines that go through it. or do i have to bypass it (so the water lines go to the block hole: thermo -> block hole near rear.

ive already taken out my heater so all thats under my manifold now is thermo -> oil cooler - > hole on block.

secondly, if i leave the oil cooler on there, will it negatively affect my oil temps when i upgrade to an air oil cooler. for example, the water oil cooler holds the air oil cooler from cooling efficiently.

any help on this topic would be great

For my CA18 I was planning on isolating the water/oil cooler from the engine's cooling system with it's own pump and radiator. You might want to try that too. I was going to use a transmission cooler as the radiator and a cheap bilge pump.

this shows where the water goes. and with me plugging it up wondering if i just plug that hole up, or i have to bypass (the water from the thermo NEEDS? to get to that hole on the block near the rear)

themadscientist thats a really interesting idea. im gonna have to look into that. so opinion....since i plan on do something aftermarket soon, can i just plug up those lines and leave the water oil cooler open?

i never had one on my rb25det from a stagea. Now, i simply ran a new heater hose from point a to point b. But i do not have an oil cooler on my whip. No bueno cause i can smell the oil heating up.

I just ran one hose from the 5/8" port on the thermo back to port on the back of the motor. I plugged the other small port on the thermo, and bypassed the stock oil cooler.

Now if only someone would make a bolt on filter-relocater that would replace the whole oil cooler/filter bracket. I hate having that unit there and running a spin on filter-relocater

yea i wish someone would make one, well atleast affordable.

NISMO makes one with -10AN fittings that replace the whole assembly but the thing sells for over $900,

What you do is plug both ends of that line thus stopping water flow to and from it. That **** is all good because it will not affect your engines operation nor temps if you are running a proper external oil cooler.

Once that is done. Get the oil block from and RB20DET and put that on there and use the RB20DET set up to start your oil cooler. Should cost about 50.00 or so. I have done this on many a RB26 and a RB25 or two and it worked out just fine. I have not picked up the parts to do it to my curent project yet but I will post pics when I do. Or if I can get a picture of my old GTR's motor next time me and the friend that bought it get to together I will post that up to show how it was done.

Hmm interesting I have never seen an rb20 filter bracket... That might be exatly what i was looking for. The stock cooler is really a big waste of space on my motor now
