Well since my car was running good for the past couple days i just new something had to go wrong, cuz that is just how it is with my car, and it happend about 15 mins ago. Im coming home on the highway and when i get off i noticed my car doesnt idle and its runnin mad rich and black smoke is coming out and i have to rev it to idle and its going from about 1500 to about 200 RPM. So im like wtf! i thought one of my intake hoses just came off from the right side intake install i just did, and keep in mind i am running a 0 gauge wire from the battery up. So i managed to get home and theres a sh1t load of black smoke pooring out my exhaust and i open my hood and my distrubutor is smoking bad and i hear like a clicking noise coming from it. I checked all the plug wires and they look ok. The intake pipes are fine but the distrubutor is smoking and clicking. My guess, i fried my distributor......any help? and to why this would happen? PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I read your post and I just had to write a reply cause my car has done the same thing before in the past. I was so pissed cause it was like it was totally out of nowhere, although I later found out I caused it. So I was washin my car after work in the detail shop and I decided to give the engine a wash with a little degreaser. I grab the pressure washer to spray off all the dirt and grime causeing water to seap into my sparkplugs. The funny thing is it didnt act up untill the next day. Same **** ran majorly rich, black smoke commin out the exhaust and i had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running. What it was is the cylinders misfireing because of the water keeping the sparkplugs from doin there thing. Well anyway maybe this will help you i dunno i jus thought i would run it past ya.

I don't know why the distributor would smoke though. Unless maybe it caught on fire.

Yeh..haha not a good idea.....lol, i guess we learned the hard way. But anyways all i did was took paper towells actually and rolled em up longways to soak up the water above the sparkplugs. It still continued to run rough because off all the crap the evaporated water left on the plugs..so what i did was replaced the sparkplugs and made shur to clean it up real good. Paper towells worked good for me but maybe you can come up with somethin a lil better i dunno its up to you.....haha. Glad to know i could help.
