I looked through the archives for this answer and couldn't find it.

During the weekend, I replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires and distributor cap of my '98 Pathfinder. Wish I had known about the tool kit under the rear seat on Saturday. #6 was tough, but after 2 hours, I was able to repeatedly able to find the spark plug with great ease. I can't tell you how much I learned about my Pathfinder - well, actually I can, but that'll require lots more typing.

Anyway, I was also going to replace the rotor under the distributor cap but could not get it off. Yes, I did remove the set screw. I tapped the rotor with the handle of a screwdriver to try to vibrate/ knock it loose - no luck. Anyone got a solution? Not sure if I should use a lubricant or WD-40 to help. I am pulling straight up. Not much around to offer a leverage point.

welcome to the forum! its definitely just the one set screw on the shaft of the rotor, and then the rotor slides right off. Just give it some force. Since youre replacing the rotor anyways. Maybe the stuff is just fused together. the shaft underneath is metal and will not break.

PS to make sure i wasnt giving you bad info, i went an pulled the rotor on my qx4 (same 3.3L V6 engine) and as soon the set screw came out, the rotor slid off with zero force...

Yeah, that's what I thought. One screw, slide off. Nope. I have banged on it to jar it loose. Nothing. I am concerned that if I were to break the plastic portion apart/ off I would be stuck with the inner ring/ collar wrapped around the spindle. Then what? I can't believe I am the first/ only person this has happened to.

Thanks for the replies.
