i installed my distributor at TDC and the rotor was at the TDC mark and everything. but ever since it's been idling really high, at around 1500 cold and 1100 warm. it idles high but really smooth, but backfires like crazy. when i turn the distributor counter clockwise to lower the idle, it does go down to about 700 rpm, but starts to bog and run really rough. do you think it's because the distributor was installed wrong? or would a simple timing change with a timing light fix it? any help would be great. thanks

Are you able to adjust the ignition timing to 20 degrees?..is it steady under the timing light?

Do you have a s14 clutch pedal?

turn down the screw at the iacv to control the idle, not the distributor. Set the timing to where it should be with the engine completely warm, and the iacv adjusted down to it's 700-800rpm range and tps disconnected.

is a 91 ka24de supposed to be set at 20 degrees? i just had a timing change done today and i set it at 15 degrees because the hood of my car said to do so. my car is an 89 with a 91 engine but i assumed the ignition timing degrees for both ka24e and ka24de engines are the same. am i wrong? and yes, i do have an s14 clutch pedal in my car, but what does that have to do with idle?

Sorry to cause confusion. The pedal Q? was off topic. Im looking to buy one.

RE:Distributor, I had a similar rough running engine that i traced to a faulty distributor. Its seems the internal sensor was intermittant causing a lot of grief. I had gone through EVRYTHING on or near the EGR , fuel delivery, etc. Decided to chg the dizzy with a spare...BINGO. Worked fine ever since. GOOD LUCK.
