I recently got my engine back from the shop and now I cant get my distributor to engage the gear fully. It slides down in like normal, then even begins to engage and rotate into place. It gets to about a half inch away from being flush with the timing cover and it stops. I can't seem to get it in any further no matter how hard i push it. I don't really want to get out a rubber mallet just yet. Any ideas what could be stopping it? Is it just that tight of a fit?

figured it out! It was too tight a fit to push in myself (rubber mallet would have probably worked but i was too scared to try it) i got it to engage the cam gear as far as possible then hand turned the crank pulley. Doing that was enough to pull the distributor further into position so that it would seat flush.
