Ok so it's a 90 240. I disassembled the front cover and resealed everything. So I installed the oil pump like everyone else said (engine is at tdc) with it pointing out the distributor cover looking like a 'D' straight up and down. But then I go to put the dizzy in and it was 180 degrees out (distributor only goes in one way, and it's pointing at the 3rd cylinder (topleft) instead of 1st cylinder (bottom right)). So my question is do they mean a backwards D at tdc? Was everybody else installing it at 180 degrees out? Or is there something silly I'm missing here.

sounds like your TDC on the wrong stroke. Follow the FSM to set the dizzy timing

I'm reclocking the oil pump, so that's what I was talking about, I guess I'll just flip it around. As in the sprocket for the oil pump had to fall out for me to pull the cover so that's where I am. But all the msg board posts say put it in so it's a straight up and down D, which I did but then the dizzy was on the 3rd cylinder as I said. The engine is set to tdc, positive about that. So I figure they all really meant a backwards D, or my distributor is confused, but either way I'll just flip it around, timing should be perfect then.

Ok yep definately, backwards looking D not a forward looking D, completely vertical. Timing is perfect. Thanks for all the help
