It started i was replacing the upper timing chain and tensioner, the engine rotated slightly while trying to break the cam gear loose(not more than 4 teeth on the distributor gear). So its all back together now and i need to pull the distributor to set the base timing and i can't seem to get it off. Has anyone out there done this before?...please tell me what you did or if you have any ways to help. thanks. Tim

i'm assuming you took out the 2 bolts that hold the dist it to the head assembly.if not, do that.if so, then just unclip the electrical connector and pull hard. it'll come out suddenly and make a popping sound

I tried that. I pulled on it....wiggled it....jerked it....and even pried on it. wouldnt budge. I even called Nissan and they told me after i unbolt it it should just pull out, not to difficult. I can still set it, I just have to pull the cam cover off every time and set the distributor. Pain in the *** let me tell ya. Do you know were i set the distributor if #1 is on TDC? I thought the big gap in the rotor for #1 TDC but when i set it there is wont start. any help is appreciated. Thanks

Get the distributor out. Line the marks. Make a mark where the rotor is pointing when the marks are lined. Put dist in. Make sure the rotor is at the marks you made when dist is in.
