So today the weather was a bit nice so I decided to take the upper timing chain guides off. So, I removed the distributor and the camshaft sprocket cover then removed the guides and installed everything back in. I thought I installed the distributor correctly but when I tried to start the car this is what happens...

Sometime it would crank for a sec then boom that happens...

Am I off by a tooth or something? I thought the car would atleast start if Im just a little bit off... Did I miss something else? Please help.

This is what it looked like BEFORE I started taking everything off. This was at TDC @ #1 cylinder. I positioned the distributor just like the picture but... arg

Your valve timing is correct, and it looks like your ignition timing is close enough for the car to start. You may be off a tooth, pull it back out and move it either one tooth ahead or backwards. Once you get it to start, let it warm up and then set the timing properly with a timing light. You will never get the timing set perfectly without using a light.

LOL...that'll definitely do it! That and installing the distributor 180 degrees the wrong way seem pretty common. Glad you got it working and it was nothing serious. Do you have any more timing chain noise?
