hey everyone, i tired searching, but found nothing...i bought a second amp for my componenets... i already have a 4 gauge power wire running frm the battery and would like to keep from running another one. how effective is a distribution block? i have a capacitor hooked up, so if i decide to use a distribution block, how would the connection go>>> battery to cap to distribution block to amp? OR battery to distribution block to cap to amp? OR is there another way?

is it even necessary for me to use a distribution block or should i just run another wire from my cap to power the other amp?i would appreciate any advice or helpthanks!!

Distrobution blocks are nice dress components and allow for changes and flexibility, but if you have a cap, that you can run a second wire from, I'm not sure it's necessary. I've done no work with caps, so I'll defer to the others on this one.

Just run another wire. If you'd like to put both of your amps after the cap then you'll need a distribution block BEFORE the cap so that both lines go through the cap.

DOes your cap have one or two outputs? If it has two then just hook one up to each amp.

If it has one then you'll also need a distribution block AFTER the cap.

ANyways, I would say just get rid of the Cap and upgrade your alternator to ~160~200amps for ~$400~$600. That'll keep you bumpin' through the night.

Thanks Rex and PQM... always willing to help me out!! running a second wire from the cap to the second amp would be much easier.

PQMwhat if i bought another cap? and used 2 so i would have 2 outputs, one for each amp... the cap i have only has one ouput which im using to power the amp for my subs.

if i ran another wire to the second amp (from my cap) would it effect the performance of the my first amp and subs?... meaning like would it take away power to the amp?

same question for the distribution block... would it effect the performance of my amp with subs?

im concerned with what would be more effective... just running another wire or using a distribution block.

im actually looking up on higher amperage alternators... i can get a rebuilt one for a good price. im trying to find which ones would be compatible for my car (240sx)... i've heard of people using a pathfinder alternator, some GM ones... i need a new(er) alternator anyway, my car is about 10 years old!!

i appreciate the advice... keep it coming!

First of all, it's PMQ .

Ok now, what is the power rating on your amps? If that does not exceed one farad, which is ~800 watts contrary to the BS marketing that says it's at 1k+ watts, the performance won't be affected. Now, if you have a dying electrical system AND your amps draw more then one farad then you'll get performance deterioration. Other then that you should be fine.

hey PMQmy bad! i didnt even realize that

the amp i have that is powering the subs is rated at 1600 watts max, its a nice Audiobahn amp... and the other which i will use for my components is rated at 400 watts max. im guessing i would need either a bigger cap or a second cap?i can get a second 1 farad cap pretty cheap. if i bought a second cap, they would both go after the distribution block right?

im still looking into buying a higher amperage alternator, but they are damn expensive! i will need to buy one soon enough, so when my alternator decides to give problems, i will just buy a stronger one.

THose are max power ratings that you gave.

The Audiobahn is probably around 400~600w RMS, and the 400w amp is probably close to 150~200w RMS. You should be fine with one Cap.

hey PMQyeah, those were the max they claim... but i doubt i will even need that much power

well if one cap will do, then it'll save me moneythanks for the help!
