The distributer on my z24 is rotated hard against the left end of the slot. I can not turn the distributer any further clockwise. It seems odd to me that the proper timing isn't occurring somewhere nearer the middle of the slot.

Judging from the the position of the white lines on my timing mark on the pulley and engine, it would be good to rotate the distributor a few degrees clockwise.

Is it possible that the distributor is inserted into the engine "slightly" out of position?

With the aid of the very complete carburetor tutorial I was able to replace the needle valve. Thank you for the help on that.
The only problem I had was remembering how the springs attached. Luckily I took a few photos ..not nearly as nice as the ones on the forum...and was able to find a clue.

Though I seem to have solved the problem of fuel overflowing out of the carb when at idle. I have apparently botched the linkage slightly. The motor runs very well but it won't idle lower than about 1200 rpm (according the factory dashboard tach).
I have the idle screw backed way out with little effect. That is why I suspect my linkage assembly job.
The truck start easily and drives fine but after a 2 mile it diesels after shut down.

I did check the fuel return line as advised and it is clear.

information or stories about the distributor and carb linkage would really be appreciated!

Try to post some pics of your current linkage setup.
