i meant more technical things that you can't see well from a picture on your laptop...

visible mechanical differences such as water neck placement, number of bolts, etc these are things to look for, for example, distinguishing ford cleveland and windsor blocks.

Well, you can still tell... intake manifold on the 20 has a huge rubber hose coming out the 'head' side of it, 25 does not. Just look at pictures or look up odd specs...

Dude the best way to tell the 20 and 25 apart is to look at the stamp on the block. On the exhaust side there is a stamp that will read either RB20 or RB25. Due to the fact that the valve covers can be changed between the motors. So if you are an a** you can put 25 covers on a 20 and sell it as such.

you think the rb20 or rb25 on the cam cover would give it away?

personally, i think the easiest way to determine between the RB20 and the RB25 "to me" would be the intake manifold..to be more specific is the way the upper coolant hose setup is designed..if you ask me they couldnt be more different..RB20 pic RB25 pic as far as the RB26, "again to me" would be again the intake manifold ....to be more specific the individual throttle bodies to start and im sure there are other things to look at like the obvious twin turbos but all those listed above are the easiest way to distinguish between the three
