Hey everyone, Im just curious how many km's, or miles you have gotten on a single tank of gas on the highway. This article I found were they tested some cars with a 50 lt tanks showed that the Nissan Sentra traveled 717 kms on a tank of gas. http://www.canadiandriver.com/50litre/main.htm. Im not sure if the Sentra is better on gas then the Versa but im just wondering if anyone has gotten anything close to that. Im only curious because im taken my first trip in my V next week where in driving from Ontario to Nova Scotia and im hoping to get somewhere close to that many kms per a tank.

Well, good luck with that one and lmk how it goes, as I'm heading Ottawa to Newfoundland in a couple.

fwiw, I've got that mileage a couple of times [540 kms/38 litres] and once between Peterborough and Ottawa (90 kms/hr, though) got the advertised 45 mpg which would be about 800 km to the tank. An aberration, methinks.

The 717/50 gives 40 IMP MPG -- acceptable.

2 thoughts on the subject.

1)the sentra has a 15 gal fuel tank versus the versa 13.2

2) in my trips the farthest I gone in my V on one tank is 400 miles with 2 reserve gallons left. my mpg came out to 37.2.

37.2 US = 44.6 IMP = 6.32 ltr/100 km

400 mi = 645 km with room to spare.

Again, I'd be quite happy -- especially with the price of gas $1.44-1.51 ltr (5.47-5.74 US gal) in N'land . . . and with it only going higher!

A year ago it (actually as I look back this day in 2006 and 2007 gas was the same price: $1.039 ltr = 3.95 US gal) it cost almost $78 to fill my tank (van, 75 ltr tank) to go about 550 km (~340 mi).

Today it will cost me about $67 ($1.339 ltr = $5.09 US gal) to fill the V (50 ltr tank) to go say 715 km (= 445 mi)

*shivers thinking about still owning and filling the van*

Unless you know there are no gas stations between where you're at and where you're going, or you know there happens to be a long stretch without gas available along a long portion of your route, why worry about miles per tankful? You need to be stoipping for breaks anyway; stretch your legs and hit the restroom at a gas station along the way so you can top off the tank while you're there.

Over the years I've made 12 drives over 2,000 miles; six of those were over 4,000 miles round-trip. I've found it very comfortable using roughly 300 miles as a stopping point for fuel. It's a lot less stress not worrying about watching the fuel gauge.

I used to paraphrase Tony Campolo: when we start driving the gas tank will be full and your bladder will be empty. We will stop when the gas tank is empty.

Seems there is now a Tim Horton's rest stop every 200km or so; it's self-perpetuating: stop to stretch the legs/fill the travel mug/empty the bladder, becasue when you fill the mug at one you have to empty the bladder at the next . . . and while you are stopped why not get another coffee?

Lots of gas stations and rest stops along the way . . . I think "how far to a tank" merely answers a curiousity -- no one goes to empty unless there are no stations or there is no money in the wallet.

Traveling between Corpus and Oklahoma City, I averaged about 380 miles to a completely filled tank of gas. Keep in mind the car only had about 1200 miles on the clock so it probably wasn't broken in yet. Also, with these V's, you have to keep clicking the pump nozzle because after the pump shuts off the first time, you still have plenty room for lots more gas. Found that out on the trip as well.

Or you're just not paying attention...

I went to 414 once before stopping to fill up, but I also had the Camel strand me at 358 once...

Sometimes my mpg varies wildly... from 27 to 44mpg ... there's a lot of room for error...

I've had 14 fillups so far with 400 miles / 643 kms or more per tank. The highest were one at 423 / 681, when I put in 12.5 gallons (US) and one at 422 / 679 with 12.0 gallons. All of those tanks were during warm weather. The most gas I've ever put in was 12.8 gallons the first winter, when I went 384 miles / 618 kms and only got 30 mpg. (All on the stock tires, Slither. I only replaced them last week at 63k miles.)

I'm getting at least 500 miles to the tank. I was getting almost 600 but I've been heavy on the gas lately and it's killing my mileage. I'm getting about 46.28 U.S. MPG lifetime with a little over 7k on the car.

We can usually get 270 miles out of 10 gallons of gas if we baby it with about 65/25 city/hwy. Wish we could get more since it's EPA rated to get more..... That's about the only thing I'm disappointed with my V.

Are you driving exclusively highway with a constant tailwind?? I barely get 500 KM on a tank of gas. My driving is about 95 city 5 hwy. When I do get out on the highway more i see a significant improvement. But 46 mpg lifetime seems like a stretch to me.

Anyone know how much is left in the tank once the near empty light turns on? I searched but couldn't find squat.

felonious- my light comes on when I've used 10.5 gallons. That leaves a little over 2.5 gallons in the tank.

I have a hard time believing that. Are you doing some sort of new math?

I too have a hard time seeing the 600 mils per tank but I get 37 on a 200 mile round trip I take several times a week mostly on a sparsely used hi-way with only a few red lights in the way. I am getting a constant 31 city driving. I am going on one of my frequent trips to Memphis on interstate in 2 days....which by the way I am behind in making....and am interested in checking my mpg again at a constant 66 mph with no stops except when I arrive in Memphis and am there only for an hour and return right on the interstate for a round trip of 400 miles. I have done this twice in my Versa and have gotten well over 40 mpg. I do not want to call someone a liar as I don't want to be called one but I have done my math for this trip over and over and I have made no mistakes and I still don't believe my mpg at 66mph when on the hi-way I am getting 37mpg at 58 mph. I do know that in my old Ford SportTrac it got the best mpg at 65mph and not at 55mph.....but if I increased the speed to just 68 mph or more it literally drank the gas and I tested this truck many times as it had over 260,000 miles when I let it go. I have read many articles on how each vehicle has a so called sweet spot that it gets the best mpg and it is not always at 55mph. I read a post on here some time back that a guy was explaining how his Versa was better at 75 or 80 than at 55 mpg. I guess I need to get a ScanGauge 2 to really prove some of these theories. When I return from Memphis I will post my mpg and it will be what it is.

I was able to pull 40 for most of a tank on a perfectly flat Florida highway, 45-55 mph and almost no signals. Based on that I imagine a true hypermiler who practiced turning off the engine when possible and coasting, etc., could get 48 out of it but not anyone who drives normally and safely.

My Versa with CVT is definitely better in the 45-55 range than at 65 or higher. The numbers on my cross country trip really bore that out.

I could see achieving 46 mpg on a tank of gas once or twice but he claims 46 mpg LIFETIME. I'm not buying it.

No proof . . . but I think every car is different.

Each car is different as I have never had the light come on and I have been as low as 1.8 gallons left in the tank.. Makes me wonder if I have a warning light.

Oh and frankohabs, I will not be rushing out to sign up for English Comp 1010

I didn't say I believed him. I just said that a true hypermiler could probably achieve those results. My personal feeling is that someone who is a true, accomplished hypermiler probably wouldn't be in a Versa when other cars in the same price range offer a better starting point on gas mileage.
