Well after my first tank I averaged 17.5 mpg. This is mixed city and highway. I have the 6MT and never revved her above 2500 rpm during shifting. Even with winter fuel this is not acceptable mileage. Maybe the dealer put some bogus gas, I don't know but we'll see how this second tank goes.

I can't believe the number of people that complain about fuel mileage after one tank of gas. Not only that, but the FIRST tank of gas. Try reading the threads about fuel mileage and driving for a few thousand miles before making judgements about mileage. I was getting lousy mileage at first (low 20's) but my mileage has improved with each of the last 3 tanks and I am now approaching 30mpg. I have about 6000 miles on it. Mileage is NEVER based on one tank of gas.

This is absolutely correct. You can not gauge your fuel eco from a tank or 2. There are many different variables that can play in your fuel eco for one tank. For instance, you could've driven more aggressive than you should, had more stop and go traffic than you will experience in the future, a windy week, more hills were driven, idled for longer periods, etc. If we based fuel eco on one tank at a time, then I must have the best V. I averaged 55 MPG on one tank. I've never gotten close to this since.

yup I barely got in the 30+mpg range the other day and I have 8000 miles on my Versa, my mileage was crappy at first, >24mpg, I too think it is funny how people expect great mileage from this car withing the first couple tanks!

I agree with everyone. Withhold your judgment until you have had some miles on your V. Also, take her out on a long drive in a highway setting. I'm sure your mileage will not stay in the teens.

My '03 Corolla only got in the mid 20's on the first tank. I was having fun with the car, breaking it in and the dealer may not have filled it all the way up. The next tank was low 30's and after a few thousand miles I was matching hte EPA ratings (high 30's).

first fill-up 275 miles / 8.2 gals. not bad with the tire pressure at 44psi from the dealer. it was lowered to 33 psi since. quite happy with 33.75 miles/gal with 275 miles total. versa sl sedan

I suspect the tank wasn't quite full to start with. Happened to me recently, got a surprisingly low mileage on one leg of a road trip but then remembered that the needle hadn't come all the way up to start with. If by "first tank" you mean the gas the car had in it when you picked it up from the dealer, you're even more likely to have started out low.

If your second tank mileage is as low, though, take it in to the dealer. A Versa shouldn't get that low unless you're pulling stumps with it. My initial mileage was about 24 MPG (mostly city, but it has come up to about 28).

I guess i jumped the gun a bit and yes that tank was the dealer freeby so I will repost what the results are in this second tank.

Wow good thread. I just sent you an email with some questions on your versa and didn't see you started some threads.

Thanks for the info!

so far so good on this second tank. I've used only 1/4 of the tank and have gotten 107 miles so far. I'll post a final result on it.

I second this suspicion.

Also the break-in. My site's fuel economy survey asks about the odometer reading for this reason.

Geez... I was disappointed with 32 mpg. I was hoping for 36!
