Has anyone else seen the new Bond flick?

I saw it on IMAX last night and was extremely impressed. First, I've never been to an IMAX theater before, but I'll be damned if it wasn't worth every extra cent. The picture definition and sound were incredible compared to a standard theater screen. And while we weren't seated in the coveted high up, middle seats, we still had a great view of the screen. Something else I noticed is that the demographic of movie goers who opt to see an IMAX film is much different from the standard theater. Folks in the audience were older families, a dad/son outing, older couples- all of which who seemed to observe movie watching etiquette; no phones, talking, or otherwise annoying behavior. But I digress; this thread is more about the movie than the theater experience.

First off, the whole underlying premise of the MI6 being antiquated in their methods resonates strongly through the movie which leads to some superb hints and honorable mention to earlier movies in the Bond series.

The opening scene with the motorcycles and train fight was incredible. Sure, some of it was a little far fetched, but this is James Bond. I mean, hes the man. bishez. Guns. Cars. The movie had amazing cinematography; especially in the scene with the shooter and the glass doors with the scrolling advertisements. The fight ensued with punches, kicks, jabs, and shots fired was choreographed amazingly well- and was believeable. If one of the characters was hit hard, they fell. None of that Hulk-a-maniac s***. However, I think that the supporting role of the villain, Silva, was what made the movie. A perfectly cast part. He was nuts, dangerous, unpredictable, maniacal and completely believable in his motive for revenge. Much like an evil version of Bond. The wild story of the suicide pill in the holding cell was eerie.

I can't collect all of my thoughts about the film, but it has been a long time since a movie has impressed me this much- the acting was top notch, the homage to the old Bond was superb, plot was perfect and engaging, and the film making and sound were incredible pleasures to your senses.

If for some reason you've clicked on this thread and haven't seen it- get your act together and GO!

Fantastic movie.

I echo your sentiments on the cinematography. Probably one of the best IMAX movies I have seen. The visuals in several areas of the movie were nothing short of stunning. Shanghai, Scotland, and the scene with the assassin that you mentioned were the most notable.

I almost saw the slow pan to reveal the caretaker of the Skyfall estate to be the perfect place for a Sean Connery cameo, but it still worked great.

The personnel transition at the end of the movie did great justice to the character development of all involved. Ralph Fiennes was fantastic.

Javier Bardem is the Heath Ledger of the Bond movies. No question. With that, I will add that while his performance was stellar, some reviews of Skyfall completely oversold his performance as being on par with Heath's Joker in The Dark Knight. It was good, but not THAT good.

The DB5s function in the movie was a very nice touch. I'm also glad that they did not destroy a real one. (There are many movies where they butcher a rare classic car for the sake of a stunt, so I'm happy this was an exception to that.)

I need to go see it again, but for now, I enjoyed Casino Royale the most of Craig's Bond movies.

DEFINITELY! I found myself in awe as my eyes scrolled the screen over and over from left to right and back again, looking for any evidence of a fake view, but I feel it was authentic.

Epicness would have ensued. The "What did you say you did for a living" quote was hysterical and would have been rather cunning if it was delivered the way you mentioned it.

I haven't read any reviews, but would be lying if I didn't think there were similarities in the performances. Hopefully it doesn't become a trend in future productions (Bond or otherwise) but I couldn't image the character being any better than he was portrayed- an intelligent, fed up, lunatic.
BTW- did he shoot the asian chick?

The machine cun bullets literally cutting down the baddies by their ankles was PRICELESS. Even better than in X-Men 2 where Wolverine sank his claws into the army dudes foot from around the corner.

Craig plays a helluva Bond. Did it seem like in some of the shots where his face was angled into a 3/4 profile that he looked a little like Roger Moore?

DUDE my friends and I debated that for about 15 minutes in the parking lot when we left the theater. They really left that one wide open. We found valid cases for both shot and not shot. We leaned toward not shot.

There was no blood. At all. My buddy came up with the "she just passed out from the shock of anticipation when dude had the gun". I find that plausible. A shot like that would have plastered her against the rock she was chained to and there was a shot looking back at her and the ground around her and all you could see was the wasted alcohol on the ground.

I don't know. They took a lot of emphasis on Bond's reaction to Silva's actions moreso than what ended up happening with the girl. I may need to watch again just to get a better idea of the outcome there.
