I am starting a new feature this month:

Discovering your Rogue

This series will feature interesting tips and features about your Rogue. Much of this information is buried in the owners and service manuals that none of us read so I figured it was time to bring these neat features to light.

Part 1: Auto Door Lock feature on +2009 models

Starting with the 2009 model year, all Rogue's have auto locking doors that lock when the vehicle speed exceeds 15mph (24km/h). The doors then unlock automatically when the ignition switch is turned to the ACC position.

Many consider this a useful safety feature, however there is a way to override this should you choose. Read page 3-5 of your owners manual:
The automatic lock and unlock functions can be deactivated or activated independently of each other.

To deactivate or activate the automatic lock or unlock system, perform the following procedure.

1. Close all doors.2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.3. Do one of the following within 20 seconds of performing step 2.

- To change AUTO UNLOCK settings: push and hold the power door lock switch to the position (UNLOCK) for more than 5 seconds.- To change AUTO LOCK settings: push and hold the power door lock switch to the position (LOCK) for more than 5 seconds.

4. When activated, the hazard indicator will flash twice. When deactivated, the hazard indicator will flash once.5. The ignition must be placed in the OFF and ON position again between each setting change.

My 2009 SL Premium has this feature. Are you saying this was just an SL (or Premium) feature in 2009? Also, why would anyone consider this a nuisance? Do they need to quickly open the doors at speeds over 24km/h, or keep everyone locked in when the car stops?

I don't care for the auto door lock feature... but that's just me.

I wanted to highlight that the feature could be changed by the owner should they wish. I have changed the wording accordingly.

I vaguely remember on the issue of auto-locks some years back that there were situations where people wanted to disable them.

For example, when you want to disable them when your in a bad neighborhood or a shady part of town your not familiar with.

The premise is that when you take your key out, and the vehicles where ALL the car doors unlock. It was desireable to disable this feature so perhaps nobody could open one of your other doors and ambush you, carjack, rob, rape, murder & mayhem.....umm, U know what I'm implying.

Since I am mostly in a safe surroundings, I prefer the auto-locks. Nice feature. First time I experienced them was in a 1992 Diamante.

Exactly. You can disable the auto unlock so you can manually unlock the doors when you want to. I agree that auto-locking is desirable in places like the city, etc. I used to do this when traveling around the bigger cities like Toronto.

Nowadays, I drive almost exclusively in rural areas... so no fear of car-jacking! My biggest 'threat' is manure spreading during the spring... I need a way to eliminate the smell!

Every once in a while I find my car locked and I don't know why? I don't think I hit the lock button because the horn would have honked. Is there a time when the doors will lock automatically when the car is parked?

Speaking of using the key fob to roll down the windows, is this not an option on the Rogue? I tried it the other day (the last 3-4 Nissan's we've had have done this) and it didn't work.

As far as I know it's standard on all model years. It's possible it may be disabled on yours.

Would be a nice feature, but sadly it's not even an option.

2014 Rogue AWD car door locks. I have tried every conceivable way to de-activate the auto door locks but cannot get it to work. The MENU screen offers a "check mark" system where you can "check" and "un-check" this feature but it does not deactivate anything. I have tried the "hold down the UNLOCK" door switch for 5 seconds, alert light flashes "once for activate" and "twice for deactivate". I seems to indicate using either the LOCK or UNLOCK switch on the door but that is confusing. What would be the purpose of the "one flash" or "two flash"???

If one flash "deactivates" and 2 flashes "activates", why would you need to use either the LOCK OR UNLOCK switches. Activate or deactivate one or the other and its done??? Very confusing and still can't get the job done.

Any help, thanks.

By holding unlock button you enable/disable unlock feature. That means when you start the car and you start moving your doors lock. Then you shut off the car and you doors are unlocking. UNLOCKING...this is the feature you activate/deactivate by holding unlock button. You did the right thing for unlocking now if you want to disable lock then hold the lock button for 5 seconds until hazard lights flash once. Nissan made Lock and Unlock as 2 different features so you can choose which way you want it. Hope it helps.

I don't know if 2014 is the same as prior years but the auto lock and auto unlock features are two separate settings.

For the auto lock feature, this is what causes the locks to automatically all lock as soon as the vehicle attains speed of 15mph or more. If you do not want this to occur, turn the key to the on position (without starting the engine), wait 5 seconds, then hold the lock button down until the feature is deactivated. Do the same procedure to reactivate it if you want to enable it again.

For the auto unlock feature, this is what causes the locks to automatically unlock as soon as you've shifted into park and turned the ignition to the off position. If you do not want this to occur, turn the key to the on position (without starting the engine), wait 5 seconds, then hold the unlock button down until the feature is deactivated. Do the same procedure to reactivate it if you want to enable it again.

These two features are completely separate and independent in my 2013 Rogue. Either can be on while the other is off if that's your preference.

The same thing applies not just to Rogue but other Nissans too that are having auto-lock feature.

Not sure if a different thread on site. Have a 2014 Rogue, doors lock about 30 seconds after exiting the vehicle. I do not push any buttons, just locks by itself seems to have just started doing this. I do not want doors to lock unless I push lock button. Not talking about the auto lock when driving and unlock when turned off (I like that feature). This is just after exiting the doors auto lock without pushing button to lock the.
