WOW!

First gear in the '91 Q. What a rush. Sounds like a muscle car at low rpms (the gurgle) and like an F1 car at high rpms. Wow again. Rough timing of a 0-60 run was 6 flat in the 0 degree weather in CT. Didn't know what i was missing before discovering 1st gear. Comments...the HICAS light comes on during warm-up, turns off before fully warmed up. Could be the cold? Also, please 1qckser, do you have any free time in the future to take a look at my Q. I would like an expert's opinion as to whether I should invest in my Q or look for a dif. one. If anybody's interested, there is a '95 or '96 Q for sale in North Haven, with mid 70K for about $8000. i test drove it before buying my Q. I believe it needs a fuel pump, had the hornet buzzing from the back seat. Dealer said they would fix it, but...

Also, my ex is looking to sell her very nice black 1994 G20T autom for $3000, about 100K In beautiful shape. I love her car, just wish it had about 50 more hp (being conservative). She wants to trade it in. I thought i would mention it to you guys. If I had the garage space and the $, I would buy it in a second. Sorry, wishing getting in the way of reality. I like the 1st gen G20t, i would take it over a 4cyl BMW of similar age and mileage.

My Q is probably not 100%, but if it was any faster, I would be afraid. Definately faster than my '71 Cutlass Conv 350 Olds Rocket I had as an 18 year old (should have never sold that car).

wish list for my Q:

win lottofind out if guides and transmission are OKdo plenum and under plenum hoses (I have the cold weather gas smell)get the transmission chip to start in 1st gear (getting excited about the thought)Paint jobRims and tires or CD player (toss up)

Hope everybody has a good new year and best of luck

Although im no expert, well ok maybe in my own mind, I will be glade to look at the beast, man I cant believe you just used first gear, thats the biggest rush except for maybe a 2nd gear downshift at 65 mph, give me a call, 860-983-8719, if I dont answer just leave a message, I was in your area sorta last night, had to take a prisoner to Bridgeport Correctional, what a great guy he was:freak

The 90-92 Q45s have second gear start, much like the big MB and BMW sedans of that era. The engine is powerful enough that it's smoother to do it that way - but the transmission generates more heat, so it's bad in that regard. Many of us have upgraded to the 93 TCU (or JWT aftermarket) to get the 1st gear start. It's sportier and helps the transmission last longer. The later models (93+) have 1st gear start from the factory.

Funny, the local Infiniti dealer parts mgr has a 91, like mine & he claims early, early 90's had the first gear start also. He claims to have found an early coded ecu to achieve 1st gear start.

1990-1992 Q45s will start in first gear at WOT or if selected manually. Otherwise, it is a second gear start without a modified ECU.

I understand what you're saying is correct, and I learned that here, I just thought it odd that he's sticking to his story of an early 1st gear tcu & he's the parts mgr at a local dealer, nice guy, gets me my stuff quickly (some of the time correctly) :rolleyes

That's interesting... My "Q1" is an early 1990 (production 10/89) but it's possible I guess that an even earlier one had it... I've never seen anything documented about it though.
