Eearlier this week, I brought my S13 to a local shop, to chase down an electrical problem (my one side of tailights didnt illuminate much and stuff)

Day and a half later (thursday) I get the message, that The buyer (SL2kid aka Tommy) of my buyer's car ( Steve aka spoolpigeon) wants to/has to, buy on Friday.

Ok I guess no problem, so I called the shop (After checking with Steve/spoolpigeon) to stop what their doing ,hook stuff back up and for the flaw I dropped the price of my car a bit (Steve the buyer is ASE cert Tech and thought it was a good idea).

This arrangement suited all just fine.

So when I pick up my car the next day suddenly the speedometer stops working immediatley out of the shop.

Of course I turn around, I for sure dont want my buyer having to receive a car without a working speedo.

So... they go to fixng it.

after a long wait its determined they cant get it back to the way it was before prior to closing.

I am very disappointed and call Steve asking him if he is willing to accept a car w/o a speedo I'll knock off some $$.

He says yes no prob, and I am ok, so I am gonna leave and make my car pristine otherwise ( wash and detail)

I leave the shop and it dies with in 1 mile

OMG!

We are screwed now.

The guys form the shop drive by and diagnose a faulty alternator.

I'm thinking its always been fine before, but I guess and we all agree sometimes they just go out.

I call Steve that it wont work and I may have to keep car so we can fix it.

But his Buyer ( SL2 aka Tommy) needs to get the car TODAY cuz his own car is sold by now.

So we decide to fix it on site, Steve knows someone with a working alternator for an SR 20.

We meet in Louisville then meet tommy, so Tommy can get Steve's car in exchange for $$. Afterwards Steve is going with me to the (now empty) shop

New alternator goes in, car starts fine (after Battery charged up from my Q), shortly afterwards it dies..

Aaargh!!!!

Looks like Battery is also shot.

its getting late now, his GF was supposed to be home an hour ago....

So we go to an Autozone, close to were I live, the only place I know thats still open (15 minutes away each way).

We buy another of the same battery.

Everything seems ok Yayyy! !

Alternator seems charging ok, battery going well, when engine revved volts go up =good.

We drive to to a gas station close to my place to exhange gear from the cars, finish money stuff and make sure all works fine.

We arrive car runs fine , during the entire drive his headlioghts dont dim one bit. I am so glad +all are happy.

I go home and 20 minutes later a call from Steve -- the car died 20 miles out of town on Dixie!!

I drive there, right before I buy up yet another new battery from Autozone, so the S13 can drive.

I leave the Q45 with Steve, so he can have a reliable car, until the S13 is fixed, and I take the S13 back to Louisville with the fresh battery hoping it has enough juice to get me to the shop on Monday (its not real close).

So either the used alternator was too weak (possible), or previous shop attempts screwed something up with the wiring, when asked to put it back together on short notice..

Maybe something is now drawing a lot of juice thats not supposed to?

Either way, it totalled ruined Steve's buying experience.

sorry to hear that fred. You were being a great gentleman by letting his use your Q for the time being. I hope you get it all sorted out with the shop. I hate having shops hurry up on something and mess it up. I guess they had no choice considering the circumstances though. Hope it all gets fixed.

That's a bummer. I'm sure he can see how sorry you are for the trouble and wont be to upset in the end. You can have all sorts of trouble, but if the person you are buying from is a true gentleman (such as you are being) and a good seller who is honest and tries to make things right the best he can, you can still come away feeling good about the transaction. Hopefully he will.

Fred, I think when I came down I brought some REALLY bad luck!!!!!

At least it all happened in a relatively close vicinity.....

I hope the best for everything!!!

You do know that if you needed a battery to use you could have taken the one out of my Q... For all I care, you can leave the keys in my Q it'd be great if it got stolen... HOwever, if they steal they're not going very far!!!

sorry to hear that fred. I'm chasing down my own electrical problems. My brights don't work, left turn signal doesn't work when lights are on, right turn signal stays on when light are on. I think the stalk needs to be replaced. Nick

The tail Light problem was probly a loos wire connection in the assembly. No matter how tight you get it they wont work right for ling. We simply sodered the wires on my tails and it fixed the problem. Sorry all the other crap went out man. that sucks.
