My setup is a redtop SR with intake, exhaust, pullies, bov, stock sidemount. I got an HKS adjustable actuator today. Set the flapper arm a little shorter than stock and went for a drive. I was flooring it in 4th when all of a sudden I feel a jolt and my body lurches forward as rpm's drop suddenly. The rpm's continue dropping and I pull over to the shoulder as the motor dies. I try to start it a couple of times and it sputters around 500rpm and dies. I caught a tow home. My boost gauge never showed more than 0.65 BAR and my temp was fine and I never got to redline. 6.5k rpm's tops. What did I do? My first thought was that some intercooler piping popped off but a quick look around the engine bay didn't show any pipes, vacuum lines, etc, out of place. I'll have a better look in the morning. Please don't tell me this is gonna be expensive.

What ECU are you running? Was your car dyno tuned?

It's a stock ecu. Stock motor with bolt ons. I didn't see any smoke. I checked the oil and it looked fine. I had just changed the oil 2 days before. Could it be something small like blowing the fuse for the fuel pump? I hope, I hope I hope. I'm walking out to the car with my fingers crossed. Anyone got any ideas what it sounds like it could be?

I had the same thing happen to me and it was the hot pipe that came off. Make sure that you check all of your piping!

I just completely removed and reinstalled the hot and cold pipe. I replaced the fuel pump fuse just in case, took the intake elbow off and had a look at the turbo, (tiny bit of oil, minimal shaft play and free spinning) and still nothing. For a while there when I would start it up it would idle perfect for about 45 seconds and then just up and die. Now it is stumbling when I start it and dies right away.

altinator? or how ever you spell it? The car should still start even if the MAS is busted. Have you tried to unplug it and run it in safe mode? I'd go back to basics if I where you. IS it still geting fire and fuel? You didn't mix reg. oil with synthetic did you? I hear that's bad. Check your wiring. If you did it yourself, it's very likely it's fouled up somewhere. Happened to me for awhile before I got it redone.

It now idles fine for a long while and then dies. I thought it was o.k. cause I let it sit idling forever and it seemed fine so I took it around the block and it seemed o.k. but at a redlight it died on me. Running with the MAFS unplugged didn't really seem to make a difference so I don't think it's that. I figured if it was my intercooler piping that came off and I was accelerating at the time couldn't I of flooded my engine? And wouldn't it idle and run like crap until I burned off that excess fuel? But it doesn't seem to be working so I don't know.

I meant that when I unplugged the MAFS it didn't smooth the idle out any. Whick it should if the MAFS was acting up right? I just shouldn't be able to rev past 2.5k.

The point is, when you plug IN the MAF it should smooth out. If there is no change, there might be a problem.

This same exact thing happened to me, I ran hard all the way through first gear and the motor popped, the car wouldnt idle or stay on I thought I blew my motor, The problem was my CAS plug came loose or I didnt clip it on all the way, The fix was as simple as plugging a sensor in. Hopefully your problem is a loose sensor. Just a thought,

Maybe you jumped a link on the timing chain. Ive heard of this happening with SR's. Check your timing. You also could have thrown or shifted a rocker arm out. Take off the valve cover and check it out.

What ever it was it went away. I spent the whole day checking plugs, connectors, piping, clamps, mafs, tps, etc... Car is running fine now. I truly beleive it was what I first thought. Intercooler piping popped off, engine got flooded, stuff went back to normal once all excess fuel was burnt off. Go figure. *phew*

next time something like that happens, just remove your spark plugs and wait. eventually, the gas will evaporate. Glad you got that fixed!!:alcoholic
