Hello. I am on my second R33 GT-R. This time I scooped up an extremely rare 4 door GT-R. I am in the U.S. Military stationed in the Tokyo Bay area. I am planning on disassembling the car and ship it as pieces in separate containers and re-register it as a kit car in Florida. My general question is should I tear it down all the way to the chassis by removing everything to include the interior, or should I just take the engine, transmission, hood, doors, trunklid and fenders? Is it possible to send it as a rolling chassis? If anyone has done this before, let me know. I have access to a large garage and money is not that big of an issue. Thanks.Rob

It may very well be a replica, and if it is, it's a damn good conversion. It does have the BNR33 GT-R Engine bay plate, 4WD 5MT transmission, RB26DETT, all badges and plates, and all the stock gauges instrment panel and pressure gauges above climate control unit are nismo and white in color. It does have all the interior trim pieces in carbon fiber. So, can anyone tell me if I need to just take the engine and transmission out and DHL it back to the states, or take everything off and send a chassis in one container and all other components in another?

You are down in Yokosuka? I was stationed there from 98-01. Do you know Paul, Gus, Gary, Jerry, or Rob?

Paul is a friend of mine. Spent a lot of time over at the Hobby shop next door to Sea Side all hands club.

What's your command?

I may have seen some of those guys. I went there a couple weeks ago to see about rebuilding an RB26 I scooped up at a Junkyard for 150000 yen (about $1400). That way in case I can't take my car with me, I can put that bad boy into an S-13 240SX. I will get to spend some time getting to know those guys if I find out how far I need to dismantle the car prior to sending it over. What constitute a car as "parts?" To answer your second question, I am a Marine and as such I'm not stationed in any of the ships. I am on medhold/limdu, so technically I belong to the hospital for the next 7 months.

I see. Well, Yoko doesn't have a whole lot to offer unless you like drinking, in which case you head out to the Honch. But I am sure you have already been there....lol

You will find out the hard way if customs inspects the container its in.

While that is true, I am planning on taking everything off; front and rear bumpers, doors, front fenders, hood, engine, transmission, seats, and wheels. DHL would be responsible for the car clearing customs; and 2 weeks to a month later I'd send out all the stuff that came off as "car parts." I don't see anything illegal about sending car parts.

I just reove the motor and rear diff. and puth them in one container and the rest of the car in a another. and my last container was inspected by customs in which they opened the container. and looked at the cars in there and released it. after a $2,000 inspection charge. this was in Long Beach port as well

has anybody in this site actually done this? I have someone from top hat performance (www.tophatperformance.com) saying they will have my car in the states and legal to drive for $3k. That sounds ridiculously low to me.

Hey Sean, are we still doing business? I e-mailed you about a week ago and got no reply. I'm taking bids on someone to take my car back and title it in Florida.

Also, Sean. Since you mentioned your company owns a scrapyard in Yokohama, what are the chances of slapping some extra goodies on there such as a 3" exhaust and I/C upgrade as well for an extra fee?

hope you have time to read this sucker.

If you do, i hope it is informative.

Keep in mind that this is a car sold in the U.S. to begin with. My opinion on the matter is to take the engine you want, and put it in a 240! But if you still insist, then register it as a kit car.

But, I have not been in your shoes, holding your amount of money, so whatever you choose, is up to you.

a 240 with a skyline motor is still a 240. i am paying the price of having something different and belonging to a very exclusive club that is U.S. Skyline owners. I love 180SXs here and I think that they are great cars in their own right and I won't knock anyone who has one. Me paying out the *** to take my car back and registered so I can drive it around is worth it to me. I am not racing or anything like that. I just want to be different from everyone else.
