I picked up an old set of 3-piece Volk meshies that need some serious cleaning, and I'm considering painting the mesh section as well. Is it safe for me to dissasemble/reassemble the sections myself? Any suggestions on how (and how much) I should retorque the bolts down when I reassemble them? Thanks.

On an older 3 piece wheel I would replace the studs if you remove them. In either case I would replace the studs on ANY 3 piece wheel if I removed them for safety reasons. Just the same as I would never re-use head studs.

Something tells me that disassembly is a BAD idea.

I'd contact the manufacturer or a professional wheel repair/restoration company.

They can be thoroughly cleaned / painted w/o disassembly. I did my Riken meshies back in the day... :)

you could disassemble them

we do it to flip the wheelsjust go in a star type pattern so relieve tension evenly and to not distort any one part of the wheel

the nice thing would be to go ahead and do it just when you're putting it back put the actual wheel part (not the center) into the oven at about 175*F for ohhhh like 30 minutse to get it to expand a little and put the center portion into the freezer to get it to contract

thats the easiest way to get em back togehter.
