well I got the cover off drained most of the fluid and got the two bearings off. what next? Pull the output shafts out? or does the input shaft go first????

I tried to pull out or more like hammer out the output shafts BUT they went out part way and got stuck, kind of, DO i just pound these out or is there a certain way to get them out. I don't want to damage the VLSD cause i need to resell it so yea what next? thanks

I suggest you pay someone to do this work... especially if you plan to re-install this into something.

Domestic shops, they do craploads more rear end work than any other import shops for the most part.

yea i bet considering the majority of imports are FF.

Well I've got the steps and torque specs on how to do this off fresh alloy and decided to try this on my own.

Ok, I just finished installing my KAAZ 2way, which needed two left input flanges from a s14 vlsd, or j30.

To get the input flanges out you are going to have to beat them out. I went through 2 4ft long 3 square inch pieces of wood to get mine out. The thing is that c-ring that is holding them in.

After that if you are trying to rebuild it, follow the service manuals or take to a shop, because I dont know whats involved in rebuilding.

You are also going to need to replace the seals that go between the flanges. They just go bad once you pull the flanges out.

Good luck,

hope that helped.

oh yeah. its a pain in the ***, and im a mechanic. first off, take the damn thing out of the car. unbolt the axle's and the driveshaft, and pull the entire diff housing.

once its out, you have to remove the output shafts, then remove the bearing caps. then pull the diff.

now the fun part. unbolt the ring gear from the diff. now get out a torch, and heat the ring up a little to expand it. use a piece of wood or a rubber mallot to beat the ring off the diff.

heat it up a little more [250 degrees] and install it on the new diff.

you may need new bearings depending on the wear, and if the ring and pinion are not to beat up DO NOT REMOVE THE PINION. it is shimmed and also there is most likely a crush spacer between the front and rear pinion bearings. if its good, just dont remove it.

after you reinstall the diff accoring to the fsm, get some gear lead and check the mating pattern of the gears and the bearing preload [FSM]

its messy, smelly, and a pain in the ***. when your done, your gonna wish you brought it to a pro.

oh, yeah. it was said already but dont forget to get new oil seals for the output flanges.
