Car: 2008 Nissan Versa SL 6-Speed

Post

Well after a month of car shopping, I had made my decision, and as previously posted, I had put a down payment on a 2008 Nissan Versa SL 6- Speed (Mag. Grey). Though the dealer had others ( 3 weeks ago, before their huge sale). I was assured this car was mine as soon as it came in. Well it was supposed to be in on Thursday and when the truck came in it was not on it, and no one knew why. Until today, when I received a call that the car had been damaged in port, and was returned. I said okay, lets order another one, same specs. and of course, 3 weeks later they cannot get the 2008. And the incoming 2009 SLs do not come in 6-speed. The mix on anger, frustration, and disappointment is beyond description.

I live in Central New York. Is there anybody on here, who knows a dealer that can get me or has a 2008 Nissan Versa SL - 6-Speed? Color is less important at this point. I do not mind driving a little bit, to get the car I want.

Thank you for any information, or advice.

I have called every Nissan Dealer in 120 Miles, and no one has or can get a 6-speed

So there's no way you can order a 6 speed? Did you check on Nissans web site and order one from there?

The Nissan website lets you build the 2009 model and selecting the manual transmission defaults to the Versa S. It won't allow a Versa SL with manual.

Tell them the 6sp SL is the car you purchased, and it's not your fault it got damaged during transit. Demand they find you one to your specs since they can do a nationwide search or to make it up to you on a brand new '09.

Back when I bought my Versa (Oct '06) there was often a 2 month or more wait for the car you wanted. Demand was high but supply was low. Just checked the Nissan Canada site and you can build and buy an '08 SL 6sp. Dont know why you cant still build an '08 on the nissan usa site. It would appear that the '09 SL is not going to be available with the 6sp trans. Don't know why.

They might re-find the damaged one and gloss it over...

I wouldn't put it past them.

The dealer should be able to do a broad search for inventory. They have better tools for doing that than are offered to consumers.

I was in a similar situation when I was shopping for my 07. I wanted a 6MT with Power Package & ABS. I knew about one at a dealer 50 miles away, but wasn't excited about the color. I had a friend at another Nissan dealer do a search & he said there was one other S in the Southeast with those options down in Key West. I bought the one 50 miles away.

Also FWIW the Fuel Economy specs for the 09 show a 6MT SL.

Nor would I. However, when I've put a deposit on a vehicle, I usually get some form of receipt depicting the VIN of the vehicle. With that in hand, it wouldn't be hard to catch them trying to slip one past you.

That same chart on that same webpage shows the manual transmission is not available for the SL model, then lists the gas mileage down there where you spotted it. Nissan's web department is really weak with the conflicting and lack of information they've been posting for the last few years. You'd think a corporation that large and depends as much on the internet as they do would hire someone to proofread what they put out there.

Agreed. Not to mention the added confusion of options being available everywhere else on the planted except the US/NA since companies are inclined to "dumb" down small cars in order to force them in the ultra-economy class instead of a luxury appointed small vehicle.... I'm sure you've read the poster from Germany that bought a Tiida. Leather seats, stability control, auto headlights, and rain sensing wipers? That's not a Versa...that's a miniature Maxima! (and I want one) LOL

Thank you for all your replies. I took alot of calls and searching but I was finally able to find the car ( not to sound to dramatic), of my dreams. I found a 2008 Nissan Versa SL, 6-Speed, Mag. Grey, Convienence Package, Sport Package, Audio Package, Moonroof, Kick Plates, tint, Ipod Interface, Floor Mats....

It is going to cost me 18,500...instead of the 14,500 I was looking at before...but it has every option I was considering adding. And at 1.9% Financing I cannot beat it. After 60-months I can have this car for under 22,000....I couldn't be happier...

Again, thank you for your answer and suggestions, and as soon as I have my V home I will post pics....

Glad you found it, but seems they are sticking it to you from the price, maybe adding destination fees (or maybe they are jacking up the SL 6MT because of the lack of '09's with that package).

They found it in Greensboro, NC... they are flying a guy down tomorrow, and he is going to drive it up.... They added a roof rack, rear bumper protector, and a year of XM to the deal. I customized one online with those options and it was over 19000, so I think the deal is pretty good overall....
