Quick question: could i take out ABS fuse? If yes which one is it and how do i make sure to make it right?

P.S. I am tired of this cheap ABS making noises and not doing anything in snow conditions

Thanks for any suggestions!

It looks like it's the same as the brake lights. Might not want to take that one out!

The service manual does say any malfunction in the ABS Electic Control Unit will leave you with normal, non-ABS braking, so you might want to try disconnecting connector E33 going into the control unit. I'm certainly not one to guarantee what other effects it might have, though...

I'd opt not to simply remove the fuse, as you will increase your chance of loss of brakes. I believe the ABS works on one line coming straight from the master cylinder, and there should be at least one back-up line straight to the brakes incase of a malfunction, but you might not want to put yourself in a dangerous situation where your brakes do not properly funtion.

What kind of Winter Tires do you have on your car? Im in Montreal too, driving around after the storm, and my braking has been exactly what I expected in these conditions. The ABS is working fine for me. What noises is it making?

This is the second Nissan I've owned with ABS, and the fourth car I've driven with ABS and they ALL make a cheap sounding noise when the unit is activated... the ABS in my Versa saved my live yesterday... don't know where I would be without it! The Versa's ABS unit is uniquely mounted, which may be amplifying the noise. Are you sure your unit isn't defective?

I've always liked the additional safety ABS provides in the snow and rain, and, as it does make a grinding noise, I've never found that to be a nuisance. Braking responds much better, almost like braking on a dry road. I think you may want to have somebody take a look at your ABS module; I too think it may be defective.

By the way, the cars I've driven were a Hyundai Elantra and a Sonata.

Even my '03 Honda accord made a very noiseable grinding noise and I could feel a small amount of pulsating in the pedal. Disabling the ABS will also disable the Electronic Brake Force Distribution. This should help stop the car considerabley in the snow. I know it helped a LOT in my Accord when going downhill or over bumps. It sent the braking force to where it was needed most instead of simply applying ABS to the wheel that was locking up. This kept more consistent pedal feel/travel when braking.

Did you consider that it might just be slippery, and the optimum stopping distance is in fact long, and athough by being more in control" you may not actually stop quicker.

I suppose you should disable it to test it out in an empty parking lot. Make a couple stops from 30mph and see which stops shorter and with the most control.

In the future ABS systems will use an analog type porportionaing valve instead of the digital piezo electric type switches used now that pulsate on/off. The newer BMW motorcycles with ABS already have this. It also readuces the amount of servo assist required and gives much better feedback.

I don't think the Versa has Brake Distribution. I know it does have Brake Assist though, which means if you push suddenly on the pedal, it will brake harder for you in case you are unable to push it hard (ie, for the elderly, etc).

Nope, the Versa does have EBD, it was one of the selling points.

Just checked the Versa spec sheet for Canada... you're right, it does come with EBD.
