Car: Fixing problems with my car!

Post

Just pulled off my valve cover and the entire head is coated in sludge! I don't have much experience in this field, but a good friend of mine who has much more experience said it was one of the dirtiest motors he has seen! What would you guys suggest to clean it out, other than taking the head apart. I have heard about seafoam and gm top engine clean. Any suggestions of what has worked for anyone? Thanks as always.

SEAFOAM!!!!I have sed it for my head, bottom end, and fuel system. That stuff works great! Just go to their website and it will give you all of the info you need. Just don't freak out when smoke starts POURING out your tail pipe.

My head wasn't too dirty but I used it anyway (put it thru the brake booster vac line). After use, my car idled smoother, reved smoother, and definately ran better when cold.

Take b4 and after pics of your head. I'd love to see them.

I used seafoam to clean a lot of stuff. I also use simple green to clean the outside of the motor or anything disassembled off the motor.

just a warning, if you are really sludged up. like to the point of having a half inch layer of hard sludge coating all nonmoving parts. seafoam or any other cleaner may just break off chunks of sludge that may clog up stuff. if you use a cleaner, drop the oil pan and pickup tube. cook that pickup tube in a serious fire(i use brake parts cleaner... lots of it... and some matches). then the carbon powder just falls off.
