Hey all, have a 95 hardbody, 4X4, 5 speed, KA24
After sitting for 3-4 days I get this jerking during acceleration. I know I'm gonna get this jerking acceleration upon starting the truck because at idle in neutral it feels like the engine loses power for a brief second and then kicks back in and you feel it as like a little kick in the butt as the truck and everything inside sort of "kicks" forward.
The weird thing is that the idle is relativly smooth and when this brief jerking happens the RPMs dont dip like its bogging down, maybe because the "jerk" is so quick they don't have a chance to dip low... this is more of a kick at steady RPMs. While in neutral. I increase the RPMs slowly to see what it does and the jerking becomes a little more violent in a way that it makes the seats and the shifter jerk more noticible. Keep in mind this jerking isnt somthign non stop... but happens every 5 seconds or so while revving it up and maybe every 10-20 seconds while just sitting at idle. **These were the symptoms in neutral.
During accelerating is when this becomes the real problem.... the truck's acceleration pulsates and jerks the whole truck pretty badly since now there is load on the engine; happens pretty much in every gear at lower RPMs (around 2000-2300 during good shifts and even worse at like 1700 if crappy shift). I'm almost afraid to accelerate because I dont knwo if somethign is gonna break... the jerking is pretty bad: a good analogy is if you're driving and not applying constant pressure to the gas pedal but instead pushing it up and down like a drummer hits drums (if that makes sense).
Here is the kicker though: this only happens on average for about say 10 mile trip after me starting the truck... after I drive it for 10+ miles it starts running good as new, perfect acceleration, no jerking, RPMs climb up smoothly, just plain old normal. Like I said, this happens mainly after the truck sits for 3+ days, I dont think I caught it doing it to a noticilbe extent on weeks while I was using the truck everyday.
I dont know why but this inconsistancy with the jerking makes it seems like its a fuel delivery problem... my fuel filter is new so thats out, next in line are fuel injectors. The truck has 150k miles on it, stock fuel injectors, maybe its time for a cleaning/changing?
If you guys have any ideas what this could be it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
