I just bought my very first 240sx, a 1992 model, two weeks ago. I checked the dipstick then and it was showing way past the H mark.

So I changed the filter and oil (4 quarts total), and guess what - the dipstick still shows oil way past the H mark. I have checked it several mornings now before I drive it to work and it never came down to the right level.

What do you think? Previous owner changed the dipstick maybe? My internet search shows same model year dipsticks similar to mine though. Too much oil maybe - I have read on the forum that oil should be 3 1/2 to 3 3/4, not 4 quarts.

I appreciate any input.

try to see if you can find someone that has the same car and borrow the dipstick. if its the same then there's too much. dumb q's but do you check the dipstick on a level surface?

When I swapped over from sohc to dohc I found that I had the same problem. I went to the junkyard to get a dohc dip stick to find out it was actuallly shorter than the sohc dipstick. Might want to find a different dip stick.

It takes about 4.4 quarts of oil to fill a DOHC IIRC. Id check the dipstick length.
