So I've noticed lately my car's lights both inside the dashboard and headlights dim just a little bit when i'm at idle say at a stop light. Once i press the gas the lights brighten up for some reason. As you may see I don't post too often, since I can usually find what I need by searching. I searched for 'dim lights' dimming headlights' and a couple others but couldn't find anything related to my problem. I decided to go have my battery and alternator checked out and both are good....I was left thinking maybe throttle positioning sensor, or I found some ideas through the search pointing to maybe egr valve? Maybe its full of carbon deposits, or idle air control valve? My question is if there maybe any other possible things going wrong or if anyone has any other ideas? I've replaced the o2 sensor recently, but was wondering if anyone had experienced this problem already? thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Usually that's a sign of a bad alternator, or excessive power draw. If you have an aftermarket stereo, expecially with subs/amps, it can cause that. If you have any other electronics running constantly they will also draw power from the battery. Just because the alternator tests within the proper range, that doesn't mean that it's putting out enough amps to keep up with the demands of your car. This is often a problem in older cars, expecially if they've got any upgraded/added electronics.

Are you blasting your radio? If not, since your alternator sounds good, it could be the voltage regulator.

so my alternator supposedly is good but i'm going to have it retested. I have a pioneer system but no subs, no amps, nothing....i don't have **** cuz my car already attracts enough attention and don't want some punk breaking in it so I don't have any subs or anything. so far i've got battery, alternator are good, need to check idle air control valve, throttle positioning sensor, and now the voltage regulator. I'll have to find where the voltage regulator is but I will check all these. thanks guys
