I drive with my lights on during heavy traffic (during the day) in my J30. Problem is, I have a hard time reading the stereo and climate control. Is there a brighter light I can install - and what's the best way to go about this? My dimmer dial is turned all the way up.

Canadian models have a DRL package. The displays stay at normal levels. Short of that, you'll just have to learn to live it.

One thing about the G50 Q45 that is really thoughtful is that there is a setting on the interior lights just before full-on that pops the dash and radio illumination up to maximum for twilight driving with the parking lamps or headlights engaged.

Wow...never noticed that - it's rainy here today so I'll have to check that!

As far as doing something for the J30, the eaziest option would probably be a separate switch that would bypass the dimmer switch in these situations... Not pretty, but it would work.

Yep, doesnt' sound to pretty. Guess I'll just deal with it. If you see a J behind you during the day, turning their lights off then on, its meee! I'm just trying to get a read on my comfort stats!

Checked it out this afternoon, and that feature must have been added later. Mine don't even go to "full bright" with the switch to full clockwise with the dome and floor lights on.

Thanks for checking, Heath. Must be so as both my 1995 have it. A very nice touch for daylight and not yet dark driving.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

I'll have to check this on the 94. I've driven with headlights on (manually) for going on 14 years and have just learned to deal with the unreadable radio screen.

I'd be surprised if the 1994 and 1996 didn't exhibit the same beahvior. Watch your dash and console light level (with the exterior lights on) just before the detent at full-on for the interior lights.

I haven't seen this feature in another car.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

Ditto.

On my 95 J30, if the lights are on (even parking lights) you can turn the dimmer knob all the way (past the max setting) and the console lights will light up as they do when the headlights are not on.

Thanks Carlos. I'm going to re-check that on my 93 J30. We'll see if this was something added in 94, for the J as well.

Nope. Checked it. Doesn't work on a 93 J30.

is it really necessary to have lights on during the day if its not rainy or foggy?

Numerous studies have indicated that anything that makes a vehicle more observable increases the margin of safety through accident avoidance. DRL are a good idea.

Just don't drive with your high beams on as they defeat the purpose of being more observable by blinding on coming traffic day or night.
