Should I be look at new pistons and rods?I was getting quouts for new rings and their around 200 bucks for stocks

Hp goal 450-500 pump gas safely I have the chance at set of Wesco pistons and eagle rods w/ arp bolts for 900.00 more.

My stock stuff is in good sharp tho...

Depending on the pistons you want and bore etc, you might want to consider boring and honing the cylinders or just honing and keeping the stock 86 mm bore.

RB26 piston rings are beefy. The top ring is as thick as the second ring unlike the RB25 where the top is thinner and, therefore, weaker. The pistons have passages for oil to get into and improve cooling. If they are in good condition, they should be fine for the power goals you have listed.

The RB26 rods are beefy as hell. RB25 rods are said to withstand 500 hp+ and the RB26 ones are much wider at the large end. They are what I have installed in my RB25 and am shooting for around 500 hp. So you should be set with that respect. Have them balanced though because they aren't within 1 gram of each other (on each end) from the factory. I had to have a little bit of material taken off of mine.

i'd get forged pistons and skip the rods. get arp rod bolts for the stock rods and reround the rod big ends

1st off Thanks for the indept information on this.2nd do you know of someone with stock bottomend yeilding 500+ ? reliably choice is replacing rings/ hone replacing pistons/rings bore replacing pistons/rings bore / rods / bolts

I only would like to deal with the bottomend once! and I'm not looking for 600 whp

if you arent going for 500+ the stock rods will work perfect in a 26.

i would still do pistons just because the piece of mind for only a few hundred bucks more over new ones is totally worth it.

its deifnitely possible. a lot of people push ~500 whp on stock bottoms in the 26. there are even one off motors that go into the 800's but who knows how long they last. the problems with the stock bottoms start arising more when you hit 600 as long as yor oiling holds up. since you're fixing that problem you could just do that.

you need a hone regardless. you cant bore w/o a hone.. maybe its included in the price of a bore

new oem rings are $200? new pistons/rings are about 600? really its up to you.. you can get new stock sized pistons and not bore too

Thanks, sounds like pistons are a givven... get new onesalso sounds like rods in the past have held for how long who knowsand that for what I'm looking for hp wise... I'm going to be right on the edge.

Blah... I think I'm just going to go ahead and spend the extra money to getnew rods/rings/pistons/bolts/boring/rebalanced it seems almost worth it.

you mjust've misread... i didnt say to get rods.. definitely overkill for 450whp.

you can do 450 whp pretty reliably with stock pistons/new rings, but the extra insurance w/ new forged ones is nice to have. just need to decide if its worth the extra ~500

I guess my problem is, is that no one on here atleast that I 've spoke to has a 500whp rb26 with a stock setup. This bothers me when deciding, it would be nice not to spend extra money, but at the same time I don't want a "well, is it going to start today" motor

Leave the motor alone and spend a few months researching..

dont think anyone on here has a 500whp RB period. mostly just dreamers looking for a "reliable 4-500 whp daily driven RB" as if any of those belong in the same sentence

actualy zerothread?id=163650 and zerothread/200867

even though only MDiZzLe19 says he uses stock bottomend, then again he says he don't have collar issue.

Watch out for the "While it's apart, I might as well" syndrome.

I was also told that if I'm going to pistons I should go 1 size over, as the oem bore is never 100% perfect, due to mass production. so, if I get new pistons its going to end up costing me 1g anyways.

I think RB motoring sells ARP main stud kit and head studs for the 26.

good deal for what you get, but why are you so set on getting rods? pretty much everyone has said they are unecessary for your goals. could save yourself ~400

I'm going to have to bore the block, get stronger rod bolts, and balance the crank with pistons. So, why not get stronger rods while Im at it. Then, if later on I get more involved with dragging or drift I can push the block to high limits. its worth the extra 400 now. ? besides if I couldn't get this deal I wouldn't be looking at anything more then what I needed.
