hey guys i have a quick question i kinda want to switch from the digital gauge cluster with HUD (90 240sx xe/ ka24e) to a regular analog but i just want to find out if it's worth it, what i might need besides the obviouis cluster, and will i be able to still use my HUD with the analog cluster i did a search and didnt find anything that would help my "problem" oh also what's the difference between the DOHC and SOHC clusters? , thanks.

searchy no worky ?

worth it if its broken obviously lol. youll need the harness that attaches to the back of the cluster. and the dohc and sohc differences, the tach and the speedometer numbers.

As far as being able to use both the actual HUD display with the analog cluster, I can't be sure, but my best guess is that it probably isn't feasible.

The digital cluster uses an entirely different harness from the analog cluster. In the analog cluster, the signal from the speed sensor passes through a single plug with a few other signals, including those to the tachometer and temperature and fuel gauges. In the digital (HUD) harness, the speed signal is sent directly to the digital speedo, and does NOT pass through the cluster as in the analog device. Also, the HUD piggybacks entirely off of the speedometer unit, even for power. Therefore, without a digital speedo in the cluster, the HUD has no way of getting power, much less a signal.

Your best bet would be to find a SOHC analog cluster with a complete harness. The swap would be pretty easy because schematically speaking, the 240sx's "cluster" signals are identical behind the cluster subharness, with or without HUD.

Hope this helps!

Digital speedos can be repaired, but what exactly do you mean when you say, "It doesn't work"? Does it take a few minutes to warm up before it comes on? If so, then there are a few resources on the 'net that can help you fix that problem.

If you're hardcore about fixing your speedo, then take it to a VCR repair shop, or something of the sort (any place that works with circuit boards routinely). Tell them that the unit has shorted somewhere and that, frankly, you don't have the tools to find out where. If they can locate a short, you're in luck. Have them close the broken circuit and you should be fine.

Otherwise, just find a working speedo unit from a parts car or take your chances with a junker. I did and I was lucky.
