my digital speedo hasn't been working for.....well...since i got the car, i've finally taken the time to actually dig under the dash and get to the core of the problem...problem is...i don't know what to look for! if someone has fixed their speedo by digging under the dash let me kno ASAP, i don't have a lot of time to fix it and would appreciate someone who knows what's going on under there....i'll also post in the general forum in case someone there knows what's going on....thanks

mine didnt work, i tried changing the circuit board thingy on the back of the cluster, didnt work, i tried swapping ECM (i think thats what its called, the lil white box by the driver side kick panel) still didnt work. i ended up just putting back my good ol' trusty analog cluster. u might have to do that

I had my old electronics teacher look mine over, he said the transistor in it was bad, but it had no numbers on it to corss-reference, so I got lucky and found 1 junkyard in Louisville, KY (at the time) who had the cluster and got it for $150 :( Price to pay for a pimpin' speedo on the windshield at night. :D

EDIT: I've taken quite a few of these out, and put them back in, I've got it down to a 10-15 minute art, of taking it apart and puting it back together.

...and if you want to switch over to analog, I've got 2 clusters for sale - one for a SOHC, and one for a DOHC.

$40 each, or $75 for both. I've got one set of wires - it works on both clusters.

Let me know if you need the SOHC (115mph) or DOHC (110mph) one, I can ship it out as soon as you like.

I can take money through paypal - the email is [email protected]

Thanks,

James

well, i'd prefer to keep the clusters whole, just because it's hard to sell individual guages...

But if you want the DOHC one, I'll give it to ya for $45 shipped, so essentially you'll be getting it for $32ish.

Let me know,

James

Hey guys, Actually, if your circuitry on the cluster is ok, there is actually a NEW speedometer module that is being produced by some company in Japan, think it was Nissan but not sure, goes for just under $200 and is "garuanteed" to work. I was looking into it and ran into a company that imported stuff from Japan every month. Basically, this module has new transistors and solenoids of much better quality. I came by there to pick up some stuff and saw their project car w/ a working speedo! I was so excited I had to ask. I'm gonna buy one of them from them once I get a digi cluster no burnt circuits.

So whats the deal? Does this aftermarket speedo go to a higher MPH or something? 110 IS very constrictive. I could buy 3 regular clusters for that price and prolly outlast that one...

Actually, I found out it is actually Nissan in Japan (JDM) that redid their speed sensor display unit since a lot of people were having that problem. This one will read up to as fast as your speed limiter (if you have one) will go. Shows in km and mi just like the original. It's not aftermarket.

You could buy 3 regular clusters for that price, but it wouldn't be as cool :). And if that digital one fails, they have a lifetime garuantee (I'm guessing only if you have receipt) and will replace it free of charge.

I was going to buy it, but I found a working digital speedo for my car about a few weeks ago and it's still working! hoo hoo. I haven't hit 110 yet, but I need to get the speedometer calibrated with my new wheels bcs I'm sure I'm going a little faster than the speedo says.

http://www.kaido-sports.com/ - about $200

That only fixes the speedo problem. If the lights don't work, maybe it's a loose connection or from installing aftermarket radio.

I actually found a working speedo from a junk car :), don't know how long it will last tho.

this is a "cheaper" alternative and you get a 2 year warranty,

http://www.mrwhizard.com/

still expensive, my suggestion: If you really want one and have the money, go for it and get it repair. But keep the analog one around in case of future problems....:oface

i have a question, when the HUD goes out, does it always take the regular speedo out with it?

mine just went out (hud and digital speedo) kinda stoped workign intermitently (if it turned the car off then back on, alot of times it would start working again) but now that doesn't even work.

everything else works, gauge lights, clock, odometer, etc...

The hud is just the extended display, it usually doesn't go bad. You can have a non working hud and still have the speedo work.

The speedo module sends the signal to the hud, not the other way around.

It's most likely your speedo module w/in the cluster. You can do it either the site i gave or the one amolao suggested.

hope that helps
