I know what everyone is thinking woth the title but hear me out.

Okay so here's my problem.
I bought a digital perfect working cluster, sub harness, and HUD from a sohc for get this $30!
Well I have a 92 with my stock DE in it and I know the tach won't work. I've seen people swap the analog dohc tach in but the ticks/dashes on the dohc tach doesn't show and I don't like that.

Now I want to know is can you swap the digital sohc tach face onto the dohc analog tach? I assume that's possible, am I right? If so here's a couple questions

1. Do I use the sohc or dohc needle?
2. I assume the dohc but wouldn't it be longer then the sohc needle and look funny?
3. Is there a right up or can anyone give me some pointers on this?

A few more questions about this digital cluster swap
1. I have the sub harness with the white and black plug. Do I need to repin anything like you would with a sohc to dohc swap with the brown dash harness plug? I think I read that no I don't but that was from zilvia and I'm not too sure about those guys.
2. The new cluster say 230k my car only has 169k I know that you can pull the spools out yes but if I pull out the assembly from one will it fit right in. Meaning the bracket piece being the same in the digital and analog cluster (LET ME SAY IM NOT TRYING TO MISLEAD ANYONE I JUST DON'T WANT TO ADD 60k MILES TO MY CAR IN AN HR)

Ill be thankful for any and all help.

The faces are dimensionally the same, but they have different readouts. So you could put the SOHC face on the DOHC assrmbky, but it will never read right. If you want to stick with the SOHC tach, look into using a Dakota Digital signal converter.

As for repinning, look in the FSM and see if the plugs are pinned differently. I believe you don't have to repin as it would be easier for Nissanto produce main harnesses with less crossover differences.

I read that the digital tach faces are smaller then the analog. Thats why when you use an analog tach on a digital cluster you cant see the dashes. Thats why i was wondering if the slightly smaller sohc tach face would fit on the dohc tach and if so can i use the what i would assume to be the shorter needle from the sohc tach.

Why would the tach have a different readout they both read from 1 to 8 also analog vs analog and digital vs digital are the same size and look identical?

Right now I'm using a SOHC cluster with a DOHC HUD tach and the SOHC sub-harness on a DOHC car, and it all works fine as far as the wiring and mechanicals. Direct plug n play. As far as the actual tach display, Be aware that if you remove the needle, mark where it was oriented in relation to the pin (NOT the face). If it doesn't go back on in the same place (on the pin) the tach wont read right, and it's a PITA to fix.

In a pinch, you could always dremel out the bezel a little bit bigger to allow the marks to show. Also if you CAREFULLY ream out the screw holes that hold the tach in place on the cluster, just a tiny bit, you can wiggle it around a little and kinda make it fit better-ish. Best I got w/o having to buy more stuff :dblthumb:

Well I kinda just winged it. Here's what I did
I pulled the sohc tach out and apart. I then pulled the tach out of an extra cluster I had that's analog. Then I swapped faces. I learned about the tach and needle figment a little late but here's what I did. I drove my car around the block maybe 5 times to warm it up and I know it idles perfect at 750 without the ac on.

So after it warmed up to temp I shut the car off and hooked up the cluster without the needle on and started it back up and I stuck the needle on at 750 flicked the ac on and it went perfect with 950 (which it usually does) so I know it's pretty spot on. Idc if its 25rpm off or whatever as long as its not like an extra 1k

Now I know the cluster worked because wi watched it work before I pulled it out but now my speedo doesn't work and this was determined before I touched the tach. I'm gonna try the capacitor replacement this weekend because the more I think about it I believe the car that I pulled it from was warmed up which a lot of people say there speedo doesn't work till it gets warm. Hopefully that fixes the problem if not ill toss it up on cl to someone else that wants to try to mess with it.

Let me add I checked continuity thru the sub harness and everything looked good so maybe I bumped it too hard and broke something or its the warm up problem. Does anywhere sell new boards that aren't 500$?

And if anyone is interested ill throw some pics up on how I dealt with the sohc tach dohc issue
