WEll about a week ago, I let my brother use my almost new canon powershot G1.

Heres an ebay auction to one like it...http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...&rd=1

He managed to break it, and when new this camera was about $1500!! Not anywhere near that by todays standards, and now its worth about $100, and thats what he will be paying me to get a new one...

I really liked this camera, and Id like to stay on these same lines. I was looking for powershot G2, which is just the next model up, except 4 megapixels, compared to the 3.3 of my G1.. I ahve a 256mb card, so id still like to maintain compact flash useage.

I would like the same sort of professional grade camera of this, not really a point and shoot, I have a good ol fuji with 1.3 mp that still takes GREAT pictures.....

Anyone have any suggestions. Id like to keep it at or under $250

HP will screw you hard on the warranty.

I've tried working with those jerks over a Photosmart 350 I bought years ago for a little over $375 and a warranty they refused to honor. What a POS.

Last month they finally decided to send me an ink cartridge for my trouble.

Jerkoffs.

HP and Gateway will give you more megapixels for the dollar, and HP cameras are the easiest to use by far, but Kodak, Nikon, Canon, and Fuji are your best bets for quality between $150 and $250. Gateway cameras dont photograph well without good lighting. HPs take reasonably good pictures and have realistic, accurate colors, but the lens clarity leaves much to be desired. It always seems a bit blurry.

Some folks, like myself, prefer the more saturated colors of Kodaks. They seem to look nicer on screen.

I am a Canon fan, and I use the S200(outdated 2mp, 2x zoom) that I keep in my truck, just because road stupidity is everywhere, and sometimes it's fun to photograph. It uses a proprietary battery which requires recharger and frequent recharging.

I recently got the almost outdated Canon A80. The A80 is 4mp, 3x optical zoom(digital zoom being a joke) and actually works off of AA batteries.

I was almost convinced that I needed the Canon Digital Rebel, ($1250 package locally) and maybe I do need it.

For entry level money though, Canon builds one helluva point and shoot camera.

Loveless... Let me know your price, that looks goldne.....

I would like something more professional. THe G2 is about the only one that looks decent, in my price range, and I want CF (have a 256 meg card that is NOT going to waste)..

Some of the new fuji's look really nice, but I dont want XD and I REALLY hate they all use AA battery instead of packs

My battery on my powershot would last about 10 hours with LCD on most times! 4 hours to charge.....

Mr1der-I still am trying to get rid of my Sony DCR-TRV950.I have had 0 luck trying to sell it, so maybe by the time you are ready to buy and I still have it, you can rip me off horribly, and I'll be quite alright with it (since I want to get rid of the damn thing)It takes still photos, also,-- suprising clarity, too.

You may want to go in sony's direction. The Sony DSC F707 and the F717 are awesome, there are sooo many options available on these cameras. Used F707's and F717's go for upperwards $300 but is well worth that for the quality used camera you will be getting. They have Carl Zeiss lenses, and I believe one of them has a 10X OPTICAL zoom (awesome) with a combined digital zoom of 20X. I think there is an 808 or 807 or 817 out now too, but if it were me I would get the F717. It takes SD cards, but I will buy your 256 CF card to add to my collection. Check them out and see what you think

I'll look into it but I still like canon. My powershot never let me down, except it just sucks in low light conditions. My old fuji does better in low light, but the canon rocks everyhwere else..

I am not a huge fan of sony, except for TVs and computer monitors. IMO its overpriced stuff, but Ill check into it

I love canon too, I have three powershot elphs. I would heavily consider trading them for the DSC F717; it just looks so professional. Go find a "gently cared for" bundled one on Ebay that comes with SD cards. Just go look at it and you will be like wow I want to hold it.

Even if the Fuji's use batteries instead of packs/re-chargers, they are some of the best digicam's on the market <$500. If you check the Multimedia Forum here or any digicam fourms, you'll see the Fuji FinePix have a great rep.

Forget Megapixel's and look for Optical Zoom. Digital zoom just makes the pixel's bigger.

I use my friends Fuji FinePix2800 and the pics are awesome.

cannon is the big daddy of slr cameras so they know what they are doing, some of the low end camera are alright but for the same price of 300$, I would go with the sony because they use carl zeiss lens in many of their camera. i had many point and shoot cameras and sony's dsc-707 is one of the good ones

fuji sucks, hate that camera I got from them

I have a better idea. He buys a $1500 camera, and in a few years you break it randomly. It will be 10x better than getting another ****ty 1.3mp camera.

I have my eye on the Pentax Optio 555SL. CNET put out a great review on it. There are a lot of good camers out there, but I've limited my choices to those that can use SD cards so it will be compatible with my PDA.
