Looking to you guys for help. I'm ready to purchase a digital camera, but can't spend much. I don't need the newest technology but would like to get the most bang for the buck. I'm looking at used and/or reconditioned models with a factory warranty.

Here's what I need/don't need: I'd like one with a screen on the back so I can preview pics. I'd like it to have zoom capability, but not necessarily a really huge range. I'd like it to hold at least 20 pics or so (I can buy additional memory later) and I'd like it to be big enough so I don't lose the damn thing (saw some at the store that were smaller than a pack of cigs...?). I want it to have good enough resolution that the pics won't be raggedy when posted on-line, but I don't know enough about "megapixels" and all that crap to make a good decision. I've seen good pics made with cheaper or entry-level cams, so you guys give me some ideas.

Played with an older Sony Mavica that my friend owns and liked it a lot...

Let's say I have $150 to spend.

Thanks guys!

I think HP has a good entry level camera for you. You should be looking in the 2.x megapixel area. If you're posting in NICO the pic has to be so small anyway you'll never know the difference between a good and bad pic. BestBuy.com is offering the Hewlett-Packard PhotoSmart 2.1-Megapixel Digital Camera Model: 320 right now for $149 and free shipping... You could probably find that same camera somewhere else on line for cheaper and without paying tax..of course you might be forfitting some type of warranty.

Keep in mind that the cheaper cameras typically don't come with rechargeable batteries, and that digital cameras in general suck up a lot of juice. Not a real big problem. You can get a pair of Ni-MH or Li-ion batteries and a charger from Target for about $13...I'd recommend keeping 2 pairs around. Just make sure the camera you buy is compatible with the rechargeable batteies first. For great info like reviews and such check out cnet.com. http://www.returnbuy.com offers returned and refurbished goods at decent prices. I normally would shy away from buying used, but they offer a great 30-day return policy.

I'd say go with a 1.3-2 megapixel camera. That should be plenty for posting online. A 3 pixel would make nice 8*10 with a decent printer and 8*10 is usually huge and unnecesary...

I have this camera (Canon) in the A20(2.1 megapixel) spec this is the A10 (1.3) : http://www.buydig.com/shop.php...abber

Might be too much but I really like mine.

Edit: I read over the posts again...and then looked online...Canon makes a great product and it looks really good, the camera and the pics that is. Canon is more expensice though. I bought mine 2 years ago when I went to Boston after looking through a consumer reports, I think it cost 300 dollars for batteries, Photo Editor, Some paper, and nice San Disk (use google).

I shied away from HP Kodak when I read a consumer reports before going to get a camera because they said there were better cameras to get, I have no idea what they are like now, but since you are looking used.... HP does have some deals though 150$ for a 2.1 is nice.

Ok. Here's why you don't want the Photosmart 320 for 150 bucks. It has no zoom. Well, it has no optical zoom. But that's very important. Digital zoom on that camera will make your photos grainy or pixelated. I should know, I sell them. :) What you want if you want to go with an HP is the Photosmart 620 which is also a 2.1MP camera but includes optical zoom as well as digital. Now it is ok to use digital when combining it w/ optical; however, never use more than half of its digital capability or like i said...grainy trash. You can get the 620 at a retailer for under 200 and online for about 150 i'm sure. I'm not a big Kodak fan when it comes to digital cameras. Also, while some people don't like HP let's face it you're not doing professional photography with this camera. If you were you would get the $2000 Nikon. I think the 620 is your best bet.

Nick :)

P.S. If you have any other questions about this or any other model let me know.
