hi, was just trying to get an idea on what might be wrong before getting it fixed.

99 g20, auto, 142k. bought in july with 137k. got oil change before new years because i was about to go on a 1700 mile trip. mechanic also suggested i change brake pads and battery, which i did.

on the trip, the car had a lot of difficulty starting, i would turn the key and it would just click. if i persisted, it would finally start. when it would actually start, it sounded fine. it never would just not go, i just had to work at it a little. i may have had this problem a few times while ive had the car, but never with the frequency over this trip. also, at one point on the drive, my stereo and windshield wipers stopped working. this was fixed by removing and replacing the fuse for that circuit - the fuse was not blown. car has been starting much better since i got back in town.

is this a problem related to the new battery, or is something bigger like the starter or the alternator a problem?thanks for the help.

Make sure all connections on battery are tight and clean. Any corosion at all on the terminals will cause the car to not start properly. You starter could also be the culprit, does it make any strange sounds during startup or after it starts?

kinda have the same problem but it is the starter for sure on my 1994 g20. the problem is that i bought a new starter and cant seem to find anything on how to install. the starter in on the very back of the engine and the two bolts holding it to the engine are from the engine out. they look backwards and cant even see the one bolt right next to the engine. does anyone have any knowledge of good books with instruction on how to change this one. thanks
