I need to replace my front rotors on my J30t and am looking for advice on whether or not to do it myself. I don't have much experience with removing the brakes and other parts. Please let me know how difficult of a job this is for someone with little experience. Thanks

the hardest part is putting the front end on jack stands. i'm never comfortable putting jack stands under any car that doesn't have a truck frame.after that you'll just need some metric sockets, brake cleaner for the new rotors, a c-clamp and a block of wood.

If you have the above items then you can do it yourself. After you remove the front wheels I believe there's only 4 bolts on both sides that need to be removed in order to remove the caliper and then remove the rotor. The rotor may need a little help coming off. A little tapping around the edges of it with a rubber mallot never hurt. :)

put some permatex disc brake quiet silicone gel on the metal/metal interfaces of the pads and shims and caliper, but NOT on the side of the pad that will touch the brake rotor.

get an old wire coat hanger to hang the caliper on the suspension.

if you have specific questions, just let us know.

i did 4 corner brake job on my J30 without any previous brake knowledge. its a pretty easy job.

If you're only doing the rotor (not the pads) you can leave the shear pin bolts alone and remove the entire caliper assembly with only 2 bolts. The shear pin bolts are the ones that go through the rubber "bendy straw" boots. If you were doing the pads and not the rotors, then only remove the shear pin bolts. Scottsdale sells brake job kits that include things like pads, shims, grease, rubber boots and caps, lockwires, seals, metal spring clips, etc. It'll cost more, but I like staying factory fresh. I have never had a problem with squeal with only the factory shims.
