what would be a better differential for my 1993 (s13) 240sx hatchback that is both my daily and my drifter? im currently running an open differential, and i've looked around for differentials and it looks like i've narrowed it down to.. (please tell me if my understanding is correct, and feel free to flame or correct any of my mistakes!)0. open differential 1. 1 way lsd 2. 1.5 way lsd 3. 2 way lsd 4. viscous lsd5. lsd's from other vehicles that bolt on to my usdm s13 hatchback

which is the best for my usdm 1993 (s13) 240sx if im using it as both a daily driver and a driftcar? (this obviously rules out open diff and 2way) and... where are a few cheap places i can find new/used differentials??

J30 will be your cheapest and easiest route as well as keep your car from jerking around in parking lots and other slow+tight turning areas. Doesn't sound like you have huge power mods, so viscous should satisfy you for the time being.

im actually running somewhere between 300-350whp right now, so a viscous will still be fine you think? i heard they wear very quickly whenever the silicone lubricant overheats...

okay but 2 way is not suitable for highspeed cornering on the streets right?where would i find a 1.5 way that will bolt onto my car?

why wouldnt it be?

the only difference between a 1.5 and a 2 way is the lock % on deceleration.

and why are you "high speed cornering" on the street? take that **** to the track.

well it seems like u know what you're talking about, and you've got the 1.5 way kaaz, which i'm sure directly bolts-on, right? i dont really feel like wrecking on the highway at highspeeds only because i decided to buy the 2way which has a higher lock % on deceleration, so 1.5way it is.

now the question is, what are all the 1.5way lsd's (Hitachi) that will bolt onto my car?here's a few off the top of my head:-cusco type mz & rs-kaaz-ats deftforce

i've done some research and it looks like the KAAZ 1.5 way lsd is a good route for me, mostly due to its fairly cheap price tag and because it's very high quality..

so.. where is a good place to find the kaaz 1.5way lsd for cheap??? and, where did u purchase yours kamin??

sorry for bombarding you all with these questions, but i guess that's what a forum's for right?

will i need any part other than the kaaz unit? (ex: half/output shafts, rings, pinions, etc.?)

My car's a weekend car, so I'm going to weld it till I get $$ for a 1.5 way diff.

If you let off the gas abruptly in the rain in a car with a 2 way. HahahaPrepare for fun. lolSomeone should have warned me.

yes a kaaz will bolt in if you get the right one

I got mine for a great price, but it was a hookup, bought it direct from Kaaz. They no longer manufacturer the 1.5 way but they can build you one when you purchase it.

the kaaz setup will come with everything you need so long as you buy the right one (i.e. open diff version vs. factory vlsd)

I'm pretty sure mine is an open differential, Can I buy your kaaz 1.5way differential after those summer pro events?? that is only if your car came stock with an open differential.

Your Driving all the way from Oklahoma to Cali for a Nopi event???

Wow OK is dead smack in the middle of the US.Had to look it up, had no idea where it was.

Why don't you go to TX I'm sure NOPI's going there. Dallas or Houston

Plus you won't have to take a 3-4 day ride.

hahah, im not downing on you because i got respect for you, but it amazes me how so many people dont know where oklahoma is, i just cant grasp the concept of not knowing where a state is off the top of your head, or at least its general area.

Anyways, i had the VLSD in my S13 when i had the KA and it kicked alot of *** at road courses and autocross and drift, with the RB25 in it seems to hold just as well, although i am probably going to drop a few dollars plus a little extra for a Tomei Diff.

I'd stay away from a solid 2 way diff if i were you. My friends bmw racecar has a welded diff which makes it solid 2 way with no give either or and his car suffers greatly on low speed sharp corners but it still handles like a mother****er and pulls the inside tire off the ground on some corners and doesnt seem to have any problem with chicanes and mild turns.

I think a 1.5 diff seems the best.

a WELDED and a 2WAY are not the same thing. sure they may act the same when the LSD is LOCKING but not all the time. thats why you hear clunking on low speed corners like parking lots with a 1.x or 2 way because the diff is locking and unlocking from the load. so dont say "soild 2way" because thats just a welded diff.

and the fact his inside tire pulls off the ground has nothing to do with the differential. its the suspension and stiffness of the chassis. if you are talking about the wheel hop on the inside tire in parking lots, thats because its a welded diff.

dont compare a 2 way to a real differential, they arent even remotely in the same class lol

Whats the highest gear ratio that is commonly offered, I see alot of 4.1 and 4.3's, anything higher that is affordable?

No disrespect to OK.I'm sure its a nice place. But you harldy ever hear of anything about it.

Plus I'm from NY and now live near Miami.NY for me at least is practically the center of the Universe.

Yeah I've heard that a Welded diff is a beyotch to drive at slow speeds and will CHEW up your tires too. I def wouldn't reccomend it to anyone who would drive their car everday.

I like it cause its gonna cost me $200 for a used open diff, shipping and welding.I'm broke.
