Just wondering what size socket you guys use on the diff bolts...

I'm talking the large bolts that connect it to the subframe. I believe there are two or three of them. I can't find my FSM and don't wanna crawl back under the car right now....besides, I don't have the right size anyway. Those bolts are bigger than any of my sockets.

21 or 22 or 24 MM, those are the only sockets I have bigger than 19MM in my tool kit and i recently removed the diff from my parts car. Sorry I can't be more specific.

I did this recently and used my impact sockets which are all in inch sizes, might be 11/16. Point is that there are inch size sockets that will work.

Thanks... looks like I'll be farming out the work. Found a place that will do it for $208... much better than being on my back.

It's funny how working UNDER a car changes ones perspective on DIY jobs.

When I was young I'd do everything....mufflers, suspension stuff you name it. Now, I think of rusty greasy stuff falling into my eyes and laying on that cold floor.....no way.

My last car had a mangled CV joint boot and needed some new bushings on the right side. It was a ton of work. The tech made a long sad face and told me it was going to cost 180 bucks. I whipped my wallet out so fast it made his head spin. What a bargain!

You couldn't be more right. That thing weighs like 80lbs and I don't feel like losing my front teeth. Besides, time is money...I'd rather be at work making overtime and paying someone else to do it.

BTW, I picked up a used rear end which I thought was bad after taking it home. Took it to Nissan dealer for rebuild (they were only charging like $300) but was told that it's in good shape. They quoted $500 to install it.. passed on that... took it to a few shops... the first one tells me $475 then the next says $208. It pays to shop around!
