Hey guys, just bought a 300zx NA differential for 60 bucks. Now i just want to know if i got what i paid for. From what i understand the differential is always open and only when one wheel spins to much the silicone oil hardens and locks the wheels together. So can you tell me why this differential when i spin it all of the parts move, where as the open diff it doesn't?

I told the guy if that was normal, he said yes. But i just want to double check here. Also it doesn't have the VLSD sticker so that tripped me out. I don't want to get a damn welded diff since i already have one and i wanna get rid of it. Did i get jiffed? Is there a way to confirm it's a real VLSD and not some welded crap?

Anybody got some info on this? I checked a bunch of websites and searched the forum and nothing seems to confirm what Im asking for. Which is made more wierd since my differential didn't have the orange sticker!

if it is a Z32 it is VLSD. to test if it is good, manually turn the driveshaft and both wheels are supposed to turn in the same direction. If the wheels turn in opposite directions that s*** is toast. but the fact that all of the parts are turning is a good thing.

Oh ok good Thats what i wanted to hear. I though because both wheels where spinning that it was a welded LSD. I though it remains open all the time thats why.

Yeah problem is this Differential came of a 240sx, the guy that sold it to me said its a 300zx NA differential. So thats why i was sketched out a bit :D

VLSD should spin both at the same time same direction.
And Z32 n/a diff should be same as J30 pre95 diff, think ratios might be different tho, with 5 bolt axle flanges opposed 3 sets of 2 from 240.

Yeah I have a Z32 n/a differential. Ok so now that I got that out of the way. How do I install it? Ppl tell me to just get new axles. But im thinking. Can't I just put in the VLSD inside my pumpkin? Or are they not the same? I think it would make for a cleaner install. I think. Anybody know about that?
