I have been searching and reading a lot of info posted on many sites. I have an S13 240 on the stock rear. I have been told, and have read that the axels are not as strong as the axels that fit a R230 rear. Now I also like the gear ratio of the 300ZX TT rear. The 4.08 in the R200 is too high for my needs. I plan on using Cusco internals on whatever rear I decide to use, but I need help picking the right setup. I need a stronger axel and that’s the most important thing, so first question. Are the 230's axels stronger than the r200 axels?

What has to be changed to use a R230 rear in an S13 with a R200. I have read that you have to replace the bushings, and the rear cover, but other then that does it fit? And is what I have read true?

Is the R230 rear longer? and if so does it require driveshaft modification?

And what axles would I have to use? It looks like the J30 rear and 300ZX NA rear use the same axles, . And from the photos it looks as if one side is longer? If that’s the case do i need two of the longer, or shorter side, or one of each?

If you can help clear this up for me I would really appreciate it. Its been bugging me for a few days now. I just want to pick the proper setup for my needs.

Thanks,Kevin

As far as the R230 final drive (3.69) goes, the ring and pinion is available for purchase for the R200 case. I have seen more than a few on e Bay sell quite cheap.Plan B: Replace the entire sub-frame. A new driveshaft will probably be required.I cant think of too many cars if any, that have equal length axles, front or rear drive. The 5 star axles are indeed beefier, though there are several cars making in excess of 400 horsespowers on the stock driveline. If it is your intent to eclipse those figures, by all means, upgrade. Only you know what your plans are, just be aware of the results of changing the final drive.

Well i will be putting down around 550-600 forse with 500 lbs od torque or more. And I have a 3 speed auto, this is why I want to lower my rear ends ratio.
