Hi, I am a new 94 Q45 owner and I want to do a DIY differential gear oil change to maintain the car, does anybody know how to do it? Aslo what type of oil does it use and what is the refill capacity? I know where the differential is but I have not done a RWD differential oil change before. Thank you for the direction.

very simple job-removing lower bolt drains oil, replace this bolt, remove upper bolt and refill til it oozes out, reinstall top bolt! get 2 quarts of full synthetic 80w-90 gl 5 gear oil{mobil 1,redline,Amsoil} total cost...less than $20

Agreed. Also, be sure to take out the top one first. Sometimes the top one seizes in place and you want to know that before taking the bottom one out...

Youll use a 1/2in drive to get the plugs out.

Not to mention, the gear oil will drain faster with the refill plug (top bolt) removed.

It's easier than an oil change!

An excellent point!

BTW, do these bolts need/have a special washer or anything (like the copper one used for the engine oil drain plug)?

I changed the oil in my rear diff on the QX4 and those plugs were so tight I had to use my leg to break it loose. I didn't, but what do y'all think about putting a little antisieze on the plugs.

Good tip on the top plug first. I was really motivated to get that top one out after draining the oil

As for the Q, do y'all like Royal Purple?
