The 97-01 has a 3.694 rear gear so the 10.4% increase would be less noticable than on the earlier 3.538.

Whether the newer 3rd case [1st gen -90-93, 2nd gen 94-96, 3rd gen 97-01] will accept gears from the 300zx manual non turbo diff is unknown. Whether the entire diff can just be substituted is unknown..........they all look and mount similiarly but never measured the 97.

You will need plastic speed sensor correction gear to match the 4.083 [from Nissan dealer].

Swapping gears [and getting them set up] is much harder than swapping the entire diff ............at least on 90-96 models.

So swapping the entire diff seems the way I should go. It should be an even swap because I have a Q that had active suspension.

Sometimes you have to change the diff output flanges.

What size is our ring gear anyway? I understand the Pathfinder/Hardbody/Frontier is a 9.9"?

Is there a compromise between 3.5x & 4.0x?

TTT

91Q, which year/model/equipment swaps are available? (J30 maybe) I'd like to find a good used diff, set it up with 4.xx & keep my 3.5xx as a quick change.
