Differential and Transfer Case Fluids - EX35

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi has anyone used the
CRC STA-LUBE SL2473 Hypoid Plus 80W-90 ($40 per gallon) for the differentials?
AND
Nissan Matic S for Transfer case?

I went to the Infiniti Dealership, and they gave me Nissan Matic S for transfer case, and Pennzoil Axle GL-5 for the differentials.

BTW
EX35 Standards:
Differential :Genuine NISSAN Differential Oil Hypoid Super GL-5 80W-90 or API GL-5, Viscosity SAE 80W-90
Transfer Fluid: Genuine NISSAN Matic J ATF

OK so it was a lot longer ago...5 years exactly...I was at 49K then and 94K now... I am way overdue and I will do it again now in the next few weeks and use the same Castrol synthetic.

NIce read XIS !!!

Yes way over due... I actually purchased the CRC STA-LUBE SL2473 Hypoid Plus 80W-90 differential oil

You think it would be possible to open up the whole differential case and Transfer case to clean it good?

tooth - I don't think I would 'open that can of worms'! You could change it out a few times in a row...like once a month or so for the next few months or so and that would 'clean it out' much better than just changing it once every 49K like me!

BTW...(knocking on wood very hard)...this car has been more than SUPER RELIABLE! In those 5 years and 45K miles, I have only had one unscheduled repair...1 front shock/strut replacement. That's it. Actually, that's the only repair it has ever needed outside of warranty (changed the fuel pump under wty)... a couple batteries, regular synthetic oil changes, ONE brake fluid flush at about 80-85K...oh, and the rotors. (Akebono pads are lasting longer than the rotors)
If my QX30s is anything near as reliable as my EX35, I will be one happy man.

Matic J was superseded by Matic S a little while ago, so I wouldn't worry about using the Matic S fluid. If you're worried about cost, the transfer case only takes about a half a quart if I remember correctly; so you'd only need to buy a quart, unlike for an A/T fluid change.

I used Valvoline Maxlife Dex/Merc when I last changed the fluids in my transmission and transfer case, and I didn't run into any issues.

Are you trying to block out the dark memories you experienced when your radiator went out on you? :gapteeth:

I'd be interested to see how the QX30 does as it takes on the miles. It looks like it's 90% Mercedes, and I don't really know much about how well their latest cars hold up.

OMG. I think I was trying to block that out!
OK so 2 unscheduled repairs LOL!
I just did the differential fluid again today and used LucasOil synthetic because they didn’t have any Castrol. I also sucked all of the power steering fluid out of the reservoir and replaced it with some nice clean red stuff. I did that a few years ago also and surprisingly it didn’t look that bad. The differential oil also looked better than the first time and I have to say that was probably because of synthetic. Then my wife drove away in it and she always punches it a little when she leaves the driveway to make me jealous of the exhaust sound!
