I've been wanting an AVIC-D3, but lately my Bose sucks butt. I want the D3 so it can play DVDs, but I had a thought...

Could I buy a regular single DIN CD player with DVD capability and use the stock nav screen for the DVD picture?

(As for nav screen connectivity, is there an actual video input with an RCA wire, or just regular speaker-type wires coming from the nav HU?)

Sorry dude you are out of luck. Factory nav screens do not have video inputs. If you were able to find the signal wire, they do not have the resolution to play animated video. If you do get a D3 keep in mind that it will not play video while you drive. Most people people get mad when they spend $2Gs and cant watch and drive. Not that, it is safe anyway.

There is a way to make the AVIC-D3 able to play DVDs when you're in drive. You can buy a module for it, or do it yourself by wiring it differently. Its not that difficult.

you can bypass it on the d3 i did it for my friend and is fairly easy, can buy the box for $20 on ebay or just make it you self from some parts off radio shack for less than $5
