So I had two bad lifters and got two replacements from Dee. Thing is, they look different than the ones I have. I don't know if it was just a slight revision that Nissan made from one year to the next or what. I mean, physically the dimensions and all that are the same, but if you notice, the one on the left (one of the replacements I got) appears to have a black ring around the lifter itself whereas mine (one on the right) do not. Is this an issue?

Is it just me or does it look like it had one there at one time. I dunno, the dimensions are the same, i dont see a problem with it.

No, all 16 of my lifters did not have them. And the set I had before on my spare head (that I sold!!!!! ) did not have them either. I honestly don't think it will matter, but I just want some type of reassurance from people like Sean, Ryan, Dee, Rafi, etc...

i would replace all together, otherwise you'll always have one or a few going at a time.

jsut my 2c

and yes i think there are diff models, my orig JDM lifters were different than my Z32 USDM lifters.. but they fit and work.. IIRC the Z32ones look like the one you got from D

I'd like to... but I just don't have any more money at this point! I've spent almost $4,000 on this motor swap so far.

The lifters are off the later motors. The earlier variants are the ones you have. How I know this, because I have parts off both pre and post 1989 CA18DET engines to include the AWD/FWD and RWD versions. I never looked at that before, but that appears to be the case (Could be wrong).

I've seen 3 different types of genuine lifter so-far, they all work fine, I can'r work out a pattern to what was fitted in what year though

Chris, I was the one you sold your old lifters to, remember? Anyway, mine are now mixed and matched like your pics and I'm not having any problems.

LOL, that's right. Not really a sale... more like a trade of lifters and cams for a crank pulley and PS pump Good to know though. I'll just mix and match em and run em.

Just to let you know, I pre-primed them in a bucket of oil by hand first. This sucks, and I don't know if it's nessicary. Also, some of mine were very easy to compress, whereas, some of them were very hard to compress. I think the ones that are easy to compress are bad as I've still got a lot of valvetrain noise.

This applies to the lifter on the right.

pull the center bit out with some grips.this is the hydraulic part.

bang the big outer part hard on a wooden bench until a piece about 1mm thick falls out

wash all the crap out of both partsput the small cap back on the end of the hydraulic part an jam it back into the outer part.

you can re-oil but its not necessary. When you first fire the engine, take the spark plugs out and pull the fuse to the ecu, crank it until you have oil pressure then start it

i was shown the lifter trick by a specialist nissan gtr engine builder and he said he never oils them and has never replaced one unless they have been bent by the cam lobes hitting them

I really against thread jacking but after searching and in not letting me start a new topic, i dont have another choice. which numbers go to the ca motor mounts. I have the 1 on my drivers side and the (2) passenger side. Also if anyone else has the nismo motor mounts and can tell me which one is left and right Id appreciate it.
