I was wondering if there were different body styles when it came to the S13 Fastbacks. I'm new to the 240 world so please don't flame, just looking for a straight answer. Whats the Sil80? What is this "hica" thing I keep reading? Questions like that. I want to purchase one sometime in the next few months and some fastbacks I look at seem to be a bit different then others. I just want to make sure I purchase the one I'm going to love looking at everyday. Hope you guys can clear things up for me....thanks!

Ok, so the Sil80 is a Nissan 240sx with the Silvia front end conversion. The Silvia is a Japanese market car and the fixed-headlight front can easily be bolted onto the fastbacks. HICAS is a "four-wheel steering" system that uses the motion of a turn to tilt the rear tires to help with the steering. Many people don't like how this works out in high-speed manuvers, but the HICAS model was the only model that came with a viscous limited-slip dif... Hope this helps! Oh, and remember that the 89-90 and the 91-93 (94 was only auto converts) differ. The early (or pignose, named for the two vents above the bumber) came with the KA24E SOHC motor whereas the newer came with the KA24DE DOHC motor that came with more stock hp...

YOU DON'T NEED TO DRIFT IF YOU HAVE A 240SX WTF!!

Having a 240SX doesn't automatically make you a drifter, hell I drifted my dads B15 sentra ok. Drifting IS NOT A NECESSITY.

I don't want this to get into a debate but Sentra's are FWD, therefor you did not drift. powerslide yes, drift no

I know this might sound stupid but i still don't know if there is a difference between a fastback, and a hatchback.

Hmm...ok well I won't get into it either but I guess it was just a nice long sustained 'power slide' then...in the middle of the night in the best buy parking lot...

no difference i guess...hatch backs are like mini-van style...fast back is the 240sx "not-coupe"

well .. a lot of people call fast backs hatch backs, I consider a hatch like a mini van, or liek how civics are(the hatch models) .. but they can be interchangable(the word fast and hatch)

perhaps i'm wrong on this, but didn't the 180's come with the CA18? If not, what car uses the CA18?

In Japan, the only place a 180SX was available for the domestic market, the 180SX had more than 1 kind of stock engine.

1988-1990: 180SX came with CA18DE or CA18DET, 1.8L engine1991-1996.5: 180SX came with SR20DE or redtop SR20DET (205hp), 2.0L engine1996.5-1998: 180SX came with SR20DE or blacktop SR20DET (205hp), 2.0L engine

The name of the car does not always reflect the displacement of the engine. 180SX just kept its name even after it started coming with SR20 engines, dont ask me why, them Japanese are weirdos. "Exception to the rule", if you will.

To answer your other question, Silvias and 180SX's from 1988-1990 had the CA18 engine. Not sure if any other JDM cars had them.

HICAS is useful for grip cornering, not so good for drifting.

I have it and like it (and intend to keep it come KA-T time)

Difference between fastback and hatchback styling has to do mainly with the rake of the rear windshield, although technically fastbacks have a separate trunk instead of a lifting hatch (think late '60s Mustang fastback, Torino GT, etc.) so technically the RPS13 is still a hatchback, but same difference.

I have VLSD and my car doesn't have Hicas. Maybe it's a canadian thing.

There are two S13 american styles of hatchbacks, the difference lies in the front bumper. If its cool looking its a SOHC 89-90, if it looks significantly lamer its a DOHC 91-94.

actually it was autozone not napa.. my mistake.. and yes that does make sense that he put in 160 or whatever on accident.. but then that means that he also tested it on the criteria of a 160 .. which means my alternator might not have been broken... but then again it must have been because now its running good now with the new one....
