Hello gents,

I am looking to get my existing cams ground but I cant decide what duration camshafts to go for.

The engine is just being rebuilt at the moment with +.5mmforgies, h-beam rods, adjustable pullys, sard 660's & a GT2871R (0.64)

Whats the highest lift I can safely go for with out having to machine the head?

I would like nice early boost & pull up untill 7.5/8k if possible,

Would it help having a longer duraton inlet eg 260 and a 256 or even 258 duration exhaust to keep early spool?

Any Idea what sort of power this setup could make?

Cheers & Happy new year :D

Either will provide you the torque you need down low. Both will get you where you wanna go. The highest is at around 8.5mm.

The 256s will keep torque beefy off-boost and the 260s, depending on their lift, should give you a little of both. I would personally chose the 260s because I use bigger turbos on my CAs than stock and I can replace somelost grunt in the form of timing advance in the lower RPM. Depending on your turbocharger selection, you should be alright with either cam. Oh yeah, you got to be patient as we're not around a PC all day (I do have a day job) .

256's are a nice wake up for the CA. No noticeable loss in bottom end, but opens up the top end a little. The 264's will give you a little loss in the bottom end, but should easily take to you 7.5K, maybe even 8K. If you've got standalone, adjusting the timing down low should get your bottom end back.

Thanks for your help gents, Much appreciated!I'm using a .64 gt2871r turbo , my h beam rods , je forgies & adjustable pullys arrived today :D

I'm thinking maybe 260 degree cams , would there be any benefit having the inlet a couple of degrees longer duration? Thanks again gents :DP.s I will be using standard ecu so don't know how to inproove the low end torque

A couple of degree's? Not really.

How are you compensating for the 660's?

The ecu being chipped is what I was talking about. Are you having someone burn you a chip for the 660's? If so, they should be able to adjust the timing down low to get some power as well.

Oh yeah i will get the whip made for the 660's,How do you get the timing low down just from timing? how much timing needs putting in?

Can't tell you how much timing should go in at ???? rpm. That's a trial and error thing and really should be done with real time tuning. In your case, it may not be that big of an issue, so don't ponder too much on it.

There are lots of tuners in the UK who should be able to ship tune your motor for you.
