Okay I have a 97 non SE 240sx. My question is do they have different gear ratio's? The reason why I am asking is according to TIRERACK the SE model stock tire is 205/55-16 and the STANDARD is 195/60-15. That is a .7 inch difference and I think that is somewhat of a big enough difference to affect performance isn't it?

it would affect acceleration and top speed slightly, but it wouldn't necessarily warrant a gearing change.

InsanityAccording to the "Miata tire calulator" the 205/55-16 tire will be traveling 61.5 MPH when your speedo is saying 60MPH.

SHIFTI do not have an owner's manual as I bought my car used and it did not come with one. If you can be as helpful as your reply, can you please read your manual and tell me if there is a difference in gear ratio or what the "real" OE equipement size tire for the SE and STANDARD is.

Thanks in advance

I can tell you that EVERY S13/S14 sold in the US has a 4.083:1 rear end ratio, no matter the model (SE or base), VLSD or not, HICAS or not, etc...they all have the same ratio.

Yeah, I'm aware that it throws your speedo slightly. If anything, they would have changed the speed sensor slightly, not the gearing.

Brian is correct about the stock ratio. You can get many different ratios but that would be an expensive solution. Nissan offers 7 different pinion gears for your speed sensor to compensate the difference in tire size. You need to remove your speed sensor and count the teeth. Give that number to your dealer and they can help you determine which gear to recalibrate.

Thanks for the reply guys

I might have been not clear on why I wanted to know what the gear ratio was. I didn't want to change the gears itself but maybe I thought the ratio was off from going different size tires between the two. Sorry for the confusion.

I just wanted to know cuz I am running 16" gram lights with staggered fittment and went off the STANDARD(195/60-15) and it didn't fit the wheel well right. So I thought I messed up. And when I was running side by side on the road with my friend the car was running couple miles slower than what the speedo was saying.
